container confusion

i'm confused about how secure, freight, jetcans, and all these jettisonable containers work. Basically, i want the largest possible container to float in space for as long as possible in a 0.9 system where i will use it regularly and no one will be able to find it (hidden bookmark in space.) Which container should i use for this purpose?

You can't anchor anything in 0.8 or higher space. The only container you can use is a "jetcan" which disappears after about an hour or so and can be looted by anyone.

Once you get into 0.7 or lower areas you can carry and anchor almost any of the containers you find on the market in space... however they generally don't have very high storage capacity.

This is to encourage people to team up with one another (one mines, the other ferries between the belt and station) or use more specific ships with their respective tradeoffs.

Sounds like a job for a mobile depot. Anything can be found with a dedicated search, though, unless cloaked.

the mobile depot only has 5000m3 of space, the MTU would be better. how long do enormous freight containers last? some people are saying 2 days but others are saying 30 days from last time used, others say till downtime? i dont think they can even be anchored anyways

Can you lock any I besides secure? If you can't lock it you will be robbed sooner or later. I believe that giant secures will float unattended for 2 months? They are pretty small though.

Don't do it.

If you really, absolutely cannot get around doing it, use only secure cans, and make sure to anchor.

Simple.

Are you saying that containers can be probed? If so, I need to get clued up a bit more.

This.

Secure and anchored containers last 30 days since last activation.

Normal jetcans pop after approx 2h.

Dont know about freight containers time, but they are far from secure and anybody can scoop them.

I see tons of enormous freight containers around. They can't be anchored, people just jettison them in space and use them. This doesn't seem like it should work, but apparently does. No idea how long they last. They are completely insecure so anybody can loot them. However they cannot be probed down, so the only way somebody can find one at a safe spot is to probe your ship when you are with it.

If i thought you were using a giant freight container in a safe spot i wouldn't bother scanning it down. I'd wait til you eventually came back in your Industrial / Freighter and kill that on its way out of system. Assuming you're only using containers because there are no stations in system?..

i am exploiting a mission where i just dont kill the final base and it will spawn giant belts of ore which respawn every day(cashflow for capsuleers 6of10). there are atleast 75+ people doing this in this system alone. i left 3 enormous freight containers here overnight, and theyre still here. they dont despawn with maintenance or after 2 hours so i'm assuming its 30 days from last use. i've been mining here for weeks and no1 has ever scanned me down. i switched to a covetor from a retriever and i am dropping about 60,000 m3 of ore into which ever is closest and coming back with a miasmos. make maybe 11 mil per hour doing this which is pretty decent since my account is less than 3 weeks old and my other account is actually playing the game at the same time.

I'm very curious as to how you transported the containers to the site.

my iteron mark V held 3 of them with only 1 cargohold expander. theyre only 2,500 m3 in the ship but once you drop them they hold 250,000m3 of ore

Packed Freight containers can be shipped with Industrials.

Assembled...they only fit in freighters.

This may change now that you have informed everyone about it.

176 other people did not just post on the forums. Generally the new player forums are more forgiving. I would not post this same thread or anything like this in crime and punishment.

Also, there are plenty of systems with belts that are reasonably safe. I don't see the need to farm mission ore.
