why dont we have a fifth character creation faction that has neutral standings with all the other factions so if you like to work on all the standings you could start a character in that type then. not everybody want to stay on 2 types of factions he can do missions for just to maintain there standing with them. now you cant go for the other 2 factions without losing standing with your current standings

thats not how standings work.

if you increase amarr standings, by fighting ANYONE that gives amarr standings, even neutral pirates, you WILL lose minmatar, and to a lesser extent gallente, standings at each whole faction point (1.0 2.0 etc).

beyond that, why would we want a "neutral" faction for people who want "perfect farming" capabilities in a game about human conflict? (up to and including the conflict between empires, player or NPC, being a FOCUS)

In short, say No to Pandaria.

You're a nullsec renter, why do you even CARE about standings? It's not like empire standings affect nullsec ISK making.

i like to jumpclone back to high to do some missions if possible.
the reason i find this so stupid a system is because i started out as amarr pilot and still love amarr ships but i recently became addicted to the missile aspect of the game and if i now train caldari standing for faction ships then i will loose all my standing with amarr wich i worked so hard for and that is a pain in the butt

If you just want the ships, then buy them off the market. Or use one of the amarrian missile boats.

1. The Amarr Empire is allied with the Caldari State.
2. You don't need standings of any sort to fly any ship.

The Caldari put business before pleasure. The Gallente put business in pleasure.

That's not how standings work.

If a faction/corporation is on friendly terms another faction/corporation then you gain very small increases in standings for every mission you run.
It also works in reverse... any faction/corporation that is on unfriendly terms with the faction/corporation you are running missions for will receive small decreases in standings (more if you take on a mission that makes you directly shoot at faction NPCs).

Here are some examples:
- The Amarr and Caldari have good relations with one another. That means for every Amarr mission you run you gain a very small increase in Caldari standing.

- The Minmatar have good standings with the Jovian Empire. This means that for every Minmatar mission I run I gain some standings with the Jove... even though I have never seen or run any missions for the Jove.

- Because I run lots of missions for the Minmatar I have terrible standings with the Amarr and Caldari (because the Minmatar hate the Amarr and the Caldari are friendly with the Amarr).

And ships do not care (or penalize you for) what standings you have with any faction/corporation (nor do factions/corporations care what ship you fly). All you need are the skills (which are freely available on the market) to fly them.

better yet, howabout a tutorial mission which explains how standings work and gives you a choice of targets, letting you choose your standings hit.

On second thought there is already a mission like this: the final mission of the level 1 epic arc 'Bloodstained Stars'. It could be fleshed out a bit to include a chance to spite pirates or navies of various factions, with explanations as to the standings impact of your actions before you make your decision, helping players to understand how standings work before they destroy their standings.

Or, much simpler, add a tutorial mission that lets you choose to go against either the local pirates or the enemy navy, and just tells you that you lose friendly standings if you attack the navy. Would also be cool if there was pirate highsec/lowsec which you'd only be safe in with high standings with the local pirate faction which you'd gain by doing stuff that would ultimately destroy your empire standings.

standings are a stupid legacy system that needs an overhaul. That said you can run missions and get all 4 empires up. And liking missiles has nothing to do with standings.
