Lower destroyer mass?

So, destroyers have the buffer of a frigate and a relatively high sig radius.
I figured that's an intended weak spot - fitting 7-8 turret/launchers implies high volley damage, in some cases high DPS at brawling range, asserting the more obvious glass cannon shell. The only way to play a destroyer is to kill things fast, with no other tricks.

But having an enormous mass to boot for a ship that is relatively small is something I can't wrap my head around. Being the obvious frigate hunter you barely reach 1600m/s with a MWD which is a tough window.
So what if destroyers had a smaller mass, increasing their speeds? Or would that send them to close to bomber role where you jump in, send a volley, and get out?

I don't know. The support frigates have almost as much mass, so reducing the mass on destroyers might result in them being lighter than the support frigates. Not that CCP seems to care, though. Interdictors already have less mass than the support frigates as of right now.

Maybe the ship engineers need to redesign the ships engines.

I don't have an issue with their mass. I have an issue with their base speeds and fitting limitations.

What we need is 2MN afterburner and microwarpdrive
