The 10 Rules of Eve

1st Rule Of Eve = Never trust anyone.

2nd Rule Of Eve = It's always a trap.

3rd Rule Of Eve = If it sounds too good to be true, refer to Rule 1 and 2.

4th Rule Of Eve = Don't fly what you can't replace.

5th Rule Of Eve = The only safe place is in station.

6th Rule Of Eve = Undock from station is consent for PvP.

7th Rule Of Eve = When in doubt, refer to Rule 4, 5 and 6.

8th Rule Of Eve = There is no correct way to play.

9th Rule Of Eve = Conversation gains Information.

10th Rule Of Eve = To correctly play Eve, refer to Rule 8 and 9.

No I'd suggest the only rule of Eve is to never stop training a skill. All the rest is just a case of common etiquette. I trust those I come to know. The only trap is your own arrogance as you should always remain in doubt.

I fly insured.

Stations being safe is a fact. Not a rule.

Undocking is not a consent to Pvp. I am not giving anybody permission or approval to attack my ship simply because they've the choice to do so. That is an incredibly perverse way to view a choice and for reasons I dare not speculate.

Not sure what rule 8 tries to imply. A correct way to play does exist. The correct way is my way.

Conversation is the exchange of info.. again not a rule but an obvious detail to reality. And rule 10 you are just being redundant.

Umpteen-and-Eleventh Rule of EVE: the forums are EVE, too.

Umpteen-and-Twelfth Rule of EVE: posting on the forums can and will have in-game consequences.

To be mildly on-topic, I think my important EVE rule is "Just try it!"

It seems that, after a few months, a good EVE player will have a million reasons to not try something new. I just say, go for it!

I honestly thought I'd detest Tech 2 production, till I gave it a shot.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

That's what you had to do after that command too. The ,7 is just do do a turbo load (because what kind of n00b doesn't use a cartridge?).

Thank you for making me not feel so old. I f'n love you guys Big smile
Now I must go dust off my old box sets and see if there are any dice left that I need to fill in the numbers with a crayon.

Errh! I think he is letting out he story about what happens when CCP lets Devs go out on the road to meet the fans.

Talk about blatant trolling for the strange.

Since you have a room in several foreign cities -- all you need to do is break down and publish a schedule of which fan meets you will attend and what times your plane arrives and departs.

I'd heard some people used EVE as a dating source -- but it takes a Dev perv to get CCP to pay for it!

Technically you're right, you give your consent when you login and choose a character. Eve is a PvP game, regardless of what you think, as such when you play you are consenting to PvP. Just as you consent to PvP when you play DayZ or Battlefield with other players.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Pretty much this.

You're playing a PvP game, dilly boy, whether you choose to accept that or not.

This isn't true at all!

This one time, I met a cute Caldari guy at Jita 4-4 when I was buying a new Microwarpdrive for my Polaris frigate, and let me tell ya, station services get really buttmad when they have to clean peanut butter and whipped cream from the walls of your captain's quarters!

Not safe at all, nu-huh!

Again, you confuse consent with something entirely different. If you require an analogy think of it like this. Assuming you knew you could get away with murder or it was "allowed", remaining inside this uncivil scenario, if you were to walk into a gun store and purchase a gun this does not give you the consent to shoot the man. Regardless of whether or not your reasoning was "he sold me the gun" or "he knew the risks of my purchase".

I'll repeat myself when I say this is a perverse view of an opportunity you may take.

Of course this is just a video game and of course people will derive their own fun. I am perfectly aware of the risk Eve presents but your use of consent here is that of a sociopath. Neither is it a clever thought.

I gave verifiable evidence to my claim. First by correcting the misuse of the word. Then by analogy.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/consent?s=t

It requires the participating of two in order to enter a consent. You don't need to be a shrink or have a "Cracker Jack" Phd to distinguish a person who says they may act alone and decide on behalf of another from that of a healthy mind.

This is not "ass talk" and you look a fool for suggesting it. Please refrain from doing so friend.

Yeah, Domanique, it doesn't *have* to be a Cracker Jack box.

Entirely possible he got his psych degree from one of those claw machines.
