Sorry if this is a duplicate post.

I am hoping someone can tell me the difference between standard missiles (Light Missiles, Heavy Missiles, and Cruise Missiles) and Assault Missiles (Rockets, HAMs, and Torpedoes).

I have so far stayed away from the assault stuff but have the skill nonetheless. I am just curious why I would choose to use one variation over the other.

Range/dps, rockets, HAMs and torps are short range/ high dps, the other 3 the opposite.

Rockets/HAMs/torpedoes also have larger explosion radii, on average, than guided missiles; they're good when you're shooting at larger, slower targets, while much of their blast power is wasted against smaller targets.

A good rule of thumb might be that rockets/HAMs/torpedoes are good for close-range brawling at or above your own weight, while guided missiles are more for snipers/kiters.

Wrong, it's the other way around. Rockets and HAMs apply better than LMs and HMs respectively. Torps are the odd one, being the way you say where they apply worse than the long range CMs.
