no, the red/blue shift is an actual thing that happens in real life. Its the same reason a car sounds different as it approaches you, and then passes and drives away. Because the sound waves are 'bunched up' as its coming at you, and the car sounds higher pitch/lounder... as it is driving away from yout he sound waves are more relaxed and spread out, causing it to sound quieter / lower pitch

The same effect happens to light waves

I'd assumed that what he meant by that, was that the absence of the red-blue shift was a bug, not that the red-blue shift is an actual bug itself... I could well be wrong, though.

On that note though, I'm pretty sure someone said that the red-blue shift should really only apply to the light coming towards you, and given that you're warping at speeds far beyond 'light', you shouldn't actually be able to see anything 'behind' your ship during warp, as the photons could never catch up with your eyes (or camera drones...)

But, heck... I'm no scientist --- I just want CCP to switch 'sun-distortion' back on... It looked great, and using science or even pseudo-science to rationalise-away cool FX in an internet-space-submarine game, is a poor move in my book.

there is life after crucible. Don't force them to change stuff while being in the process of stabilization. The gimmicks can be tweaked in later patches after the main expansion.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Don't get me wrong, it's not as if I'm requesting a complete rewrite... I wouldn't have posted this thread, if an FX programmer on the Art Dev team (who was working on trails at the time) hadn't asked the Art Director (at my request) -- how much work would it be, to switch the effect 'back on'?

Given that the answer was, in essence, hardly any work at all; this is why I'm here... because if this 'switch' doesn't happen now, while it's still easy, there's a very good chance it'll be left behind for years, or forgotten all together...

+1 for red shift and blue shift... that's cooler than the sun effect. (my takeaway from this thread)

5 days left, CCP...

Thank you to everyone who's supported this thread so far, and the original thread in particular, and thanks Amro for the free bump, troll or no...

Y'know, all it takes is for a Dev to say "Yes, that effect is great, and we're switching it back on." or "Nope, forget it, it was too cool..."

I was just checking out the latest Sisi build, and while they haven't returned Sun-distortion to us yet, neither have they fixed the obviously 'wrong' distortion of the Combat-overlay -- so, it looks like the current Sisi release-candidate is testing other code atm, and doesn't include art updates... Maybe tomorrow... CCP?

Something about a camera lens in real life gets higher priority than an awesome visual effect. Nice.

Let the game look cool, that's what matters. Stop nerfing the pretty things. Make up the text to explain it later, it's not as important as as an awesome crazed sun on the occasional warp.

I really liked the ripping effect... I vote for keeping it, this is a game, it is to LOOK GOOD.

And as a side note... Are you calling anything during a warp realistic? I mean, c'mon, you call a warp realistic? If it was to be a realistic game there would be no warp at all...
