What drones?

I have an Ishkur and I'm very pleased with it. I use T2 Hornets and they do the business.

I am thinking of getting an Ishtar, with its greatly increased drone capacity I would like any suggestions of what sort of mix I should be looking at to get the best from this ship.

I have a level 5 in all applicable skills so that's not the problem. What is, is do I go for a mixture of drone types or stick to say, medium drones? As I do PvE the ECM drones are not really needed.

Basically what I want to know is how do I get the biggest bang for my buck.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks.

For PVE in an Ishtar, a good mix would probably be one or two sets of sentries (Gardes plus another set selected for damage type), a couple of sets of light drones (with the modern aggro mechanics, medium drones are iffy, I think), and a set of ECM drones in case of gankers.

An Ishtar will do battleship-grade DPS with sentry drones.

5x Warrior II
5x Ogre II
5x EC-600
5x Bouncer II (or your preferred sentry type)

optional:
5x Hammerhead II
or I'd personally go with more EC-600 and a spare set or two of lights for when you get tackled and they primary drones.

also try for improved survivability in lowsec:
Cargohold full of spares / 5 WCS, MWD, Imp. Cloak II, Web, scram, M Neut and a mobile depot to refit - PVE and PVP are not exclusive.

As always, the answer is another question. What do you plan to be doing with your Ishtar? You haven't even answered the very basic question of PVE vs PVP, or if PVE, whether we're talking missions, anomalies, nullsec, hisec, plexes, wormholes, belt ratting, whatever.

Do you really? Is this like a purchased character or something? Do you have sentry drone interfacing 5, heavy drone 5, drone interfacing 5, hac 5, as well as your drone supports?

To answer your question, heavies and sentries are both pretty awesome on the ishtar. Heavies work okay for ratting anomalies and a few other situations. Sentries are used for all kinds of PVE and I always bring 1 set of gardes, and 1 set of the one of the other 3 types, depending on what the npcs are weak to. Some people carry a set of heavies for frigs, or you can carry a few sets of meds/lights.

To answer Batelle's question. I'm going to be doing some Cosmos stuff, Ratting, Exploration and Mission Running. Mostly in hi sec.

No, Just a Gallente old timer >7 years and counting who chose to specialise in drones very early on and has kept going ever since. As to the rest of your queries, yes I have almost all drone skills at 5, the only ones that are not are ECM , mining and repair, stuff that I do not see a need to take to the limit as I don't do PvP but even there they are at 3 or 4, I see no need to use up time on skills I don't really use.

Wrong forum.

Gratuitous insults should go in GD.

By the way it should be "Oh you're a highsec dude..."

To be fair, Ships and Modules is probably the forum section this conversation belongs in - you get the combination of PVE and PVP players in there, rather than the heavy concentration of PVP players you find in W&T (where, as you might have noticed from browsing, you'll also find a bunch of pointless railgun-measuring contests).

Two things about the ECM drone skill: 1) it cranks up your drone control range for all your drones, not just ECM drones, so it's a valuable one to bring up for any drone boat pilot; and 2) this is W&T, and you get tear harvesters floating around, and if you get pounced by a ganker, a set of EC drones can save your bacon if the random number gods are on your side.

This involves no warfare at all, and tactics are not present when you can eve-survival everything. So actually you are correct, this thread is in the wrong forum. That said, your question has been answered anyways.

Like I said, pointless railgun-measuring contests. The message already got passed. In a friendlier way, one might add.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I will think about what to do and the best way to use the drones.

And a big welcome to all the frothing and insults.

This is, after all, EVE we are discussing and pointless raging, insults and general nastiness are some of the things that EVE excels in causing.

Again, thanks to all for your contributions.

You have made EVE a better place to be.

Not necessarily a nicer place, but there you are, this is EVE.Lol
