The most confounding part of this thread is "Who looks at the market for freed slaves and janitors?"

This is exactly what I was thinking. I am guessing that the OP was not aware that these items have little to no actual use in the game other than as mission items.

In a way though that may make this sort of scam more prone to be targeted to new players. They are the ones who lack context on the workings of the game and are bombarded by missions requiring them to obtain the items. They may therefore tend to overvalue these items and not question their being offered for sale at such a high unit price.

The money is not the issue Heinrich... It wasn't that big of an amount, it took me less of a week to recover.. it's the scam tat matters. But there are other ways of repaying that!

maybe you should hire people to go after the guy who scammed you- i wouldn't rely on your ' PVP SKILZZ '
as you would have us belive Twisted

This is the care bear character, I have done little to no PvP with him. His main responsibility is to run missions to make money so we can fund the PvP... Secondly I didn't say that I am brilliant at PvP, but I think I can handle this:

I hope you enjoy waiting for a very long time while I remain stationary. Find me in Dantumi. And hell, if you actually became a problem I could always use some of your donation to hire some more guns!

"Well done Pig, well done."

This tactic requires no policing. Just do not be a fool with your isk.

If a negative ISK balance where to be introduced for these situations...

I ran across something rather odd.

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Market_guide

Scroll down to the "FINES" section, and notice how it reads, that there is a 10% penalty for placing FAILED buy order (Just like the one you filled)

I believe you can petition, the action that has happened by having the Dev's cross reference, if the scammer has actually incurred this 10% fine or not, If they did NOT incurred the FINE, then I believe it would fall into a game mechanic that did not activate and either you could, ask kindly to have a refund OR have the person on the other end, Fined 10%.

You can open the link ingame by:

1. Open market window, and hover your mouse to the top right corner and click on the Question mark, then hit Market guide from the drop down menu.

I strongly believe this mechanic of the game to be FAULTY at the moment.

1. Bring me and an alt to somewhere remote with a reasonable volume of something
2. Give alt w/ margin 5 a few billion
3. ???????
4. QUADRUPLE MONIES

It would probably be more efficient to use margin 4 though, many alts could be trained faster. With a sizable seed each tripling would be substantial. Negative balances = ability to print money. Removing margin trading would also be very detrimental to more legitimate traders.

The victims of the margin scam only lose their money once, and they deserve the loss. They didn't look into the item beyond seeing the sells and the fake buy, and they should have known it was too good to be true.
