I petitioned about this problem and all i got was a ''F*ck off smile* I repeat, it''s not normal for a damn portrait to eat pc resources and internet band. There are 3 big problems now

1 : in a trade hub it's now allmost impossible to scroll down to look for someone because that causes pc to freeze or lag

2 : sitting in a high traffic route , causes a great decrease in fps, cause again...the damn portraits of ppl coming and going melts my pc resoursec and also eats my internet transfer and trust me is pretty decent

3: if u run multiple clients, all these problems mentioned above are multiplied by the number of clients u running ( 2 clients running, 2 sets of portraits loading = clients crash )

Until this portrait loading by default, i had no problem playing the game with maximum graphic details.

Please make an option that allows us to switch off portraits ar at least to see it only when we click it, like it was before

Thank you and excuse my english

You can prevent the client downloading them and filling your cache up with that junk. This way everyone is equal at least in looks and it has the added bonus of meaning you don't see any monocles. Big smile Every one in my Eve world looks the same just a shadow of their former self. Blink

To do this first you need to locate the Picture folder in your Eve cahce which I think should be in one of the following locations (depending on the OS and other factors the locations may differ):

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\d_eve_tranquility\cache\Pictures

Windows 7
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\cache\Pictures

Once you have found the 'Pictures' folder delete the folder 'Characters' inside it and then create a new file called 'Characters' making sure that it is not saved with the '.txt. extension. You can do this by opening up an empty Notepad file and choosing the SaveAs option and when prompted for a file name simply put in "Characters" including the " before and after the filename as this tells Notepad to explicitly save the file as this name and therefore it will not auto add the '.txt' extension to the file name. Make sure to save this file in the 'Pictures' folder of your Eve cache.

After you have completed the above step you will need to make the 'Characters' file that you just created read only in Windows XP this can be achived simply be right clicking the file choosing properties and ticking the read only option box. I am not sure if the same method applies to Windows 7 as I do not own a copy of that OS but I am sure it won't differ much if so.

Now you are set no more downloading of portraits or monocles :) I hope this was of some help if anything is still not clear on how to achive this or if you need any help let me know and I will try and assist further.

‘No, this isn't it at all. Make it more... psssshhhh’.

I am not entirely sure this would stop the downloading of the portraits, it depends whether client tries to open a file handle before downloading or after. If before, this would potentially stop portraits from being downloaded, if after - it'd only stop them from being displayed. It also has the potential to crash you game. Be warned.

Also on NTFS partition simply removing read/write access rights for the folder for every user should do it as well.

Ah, you seek meaning? Then listen to the music, not the song.

This doesent solve the issue. I want the portrait stop loading in local unless i click it like it was before incarna. Do a quick experiment and ctrl+f to see FPS, after that scroll in local and notice how FPS is going down while doing that. This happens also if the system is a high traffic one. How can CCP make such a big mistake and not noticed it ? Or shud we all have 10mb/s personal internet broadband and i7 CPU ?

And 2 other problems. There's a bug that spams when i try reloading AC ammo, saying that ammo coud not be fitted and the warp tunnel doesent work sometimes.

I would like for a Gm or something to at least make the effort to look into the problem
