I hoped someone would notice that :)

And a small update:

The Federetion Award is now:
1b ISK + 5 Federation Navy Comets + Vexor Navy Issue + Brutix Navy Issue + Brutix Navy Issue BPC + Megathron Navy Issue

Brutix Navy Issue BPC has been added by Deen Wispa, thank you.

Important update, sorry for double post.

The Federetion Award is now:
1b ISK + 20 Federation Navy Comets + 5 Vexors Navy Issue + Brutix Navy Issue + Brutix Navy Issue BPC + Megathron Navy Issue

15 Federation Navy Comets and 4 Vexors Navy Issue were added, some say it was Jacus Roden himself that donated them, well it's good, few domi navy issues would be nicer if you ask me Cool
The prize is now probably ~ 2,5b ISK, not bad, and thanks to all the donators.

Anyone wants to donate Domi Navy issue to the collection?Big smile

Shoot them all! Be polite.

Sorry my bad english.
Most of solo pvp videos is brawling, because is hard to keep warp disraptor distance, tanking by transversal,
and do not lost targets after slingshots. One piloting error and you are lost target or scrabled and die.
Just try to find good kiting video and you will understood me.

If you add nomination (award) for this kind of PvP (kiting on fast, agile, low HP frigates) then I donate 2 Domi Navy.

Then the nano award should probably go to the main contest rather than the Gallente Militia side award.

I will speak with Aldap and the other judges and we may add a Nano Award. But just a thought, would it be more appropiate to give some kiting ships instead? Maybe a Mach instead of 2 navydomis.

As Mizhir wrote, this should go to the main contest, I'm just lobbying for The Federation Award that is organized by Gallente Militia :)

For a possibility to see skilled kiting videos I am ready to donate two Machariels. Or something similar.

I love you guys!!

Now about fraps,
I have a licence but I don't know what would be the best setting for recording, so I ask you what would be the best tradeoff for the fps setting?
I know that 60fps will create very large files so I would have to compress them later, which is the least of my concerns.

And one other thing, is it okay if I would ditch the sound recording or would I have to keep that in too?

I spoke with Daneel Trevize yesterday and we discussed settings for recordings. He made a fair point about FPS: You dont need a high fps since the fight will most likely be edited to a higher speed in the video and in eve there aren't really that many fast movements so you wouldn't really notice a lower fps. So 30fps would be perfectly fine.

But more info about recording will come soon.

As for the sound. It will not really play an important role, but in my opinion, it can be nice to have. However we are not gonna force people to include it as I know there are people who plays without sound and the video will have music anyways.

At a technical question, would it create problems if I record at a super-low fps? After my first video turned out incredibly ******, I tried several methods to make something looking at least reasonably good, but I ran into serious trouble with the recording: It stutters.

The only method I found that worked was reducing the frames per second of the recording until the jittering stopped. This creates nice, not too large videos with two more problems:

1. Sometimes, in fights for example, the video still stutters.
2. I think because of the ridiculous low fps, the video creates some serious eye strain. ( I had to go down to 5 fps with my recording software until that ******* thing stopped dropping frames, which made almost every movement in the recording jitter, instead of just some of it.)

Now the real question is, how can I prevent my recording from skipping like a broken CD?

Fun fact: Just as a test I tried reducing resolution, graphic details, everything. To my surprise, nothing altered the test videos in any way, except for reducing frame rate. HyperCam 2 is really weird.

Edit:

I googled a bit and apparently some tell me I could have a better performance while recording to a HDD Eve is not on, others tell me the exact opposite: That I can get better videos if both recording and playing is done from the same HDD. WTF? What is now true and what is bullshit?

Record to a different drive. Specifically drive, not just a different partition which could be the same physical device even if it appears under a different drive letter in Windows. This should move any IO bottleneck from the 1 device to possibly your motherboard, RAM, or CPU if it then still can't cope.

It sounds like your recording software is possibly trying to do on-the-fly compression/encoding. While this can save you file space and some time later, it could be more than your setup can handle in realtime.

Wow, I'm kind of glad the option with different drives was the right one. (Eve is on a different physical HDD then my recording files. And copying all my videos files to another drive would have taken hours.)

Also I think I solved my troubles by changing my recording software. Hypercam 2 is dead, long live MSI Afterburner! My first test-video looked well and didn't stutter, hopefully I can now make the rest of my planned PVP-recordings without running into any more trouble.

Edit: In the end I couldn't work with hypercam 2 at all anymore. The damn thing suddenly refused to record anything besides my desktop, so I think I just uninstall and forget it.

FWIW there's a way to turn VLC into a 1-click screen capture app, with options about how it compresses/transcodes on the fly before it hits your drive.

For the record, I ended up using 20fps, 5000vbr settings at last use, before my Win7 install died.

Edit: just got it working for Linux too, while using multiple monitors.

Welp, I finally have a setup that works. Now I already made two more videos, but wow. Does it count as PvP if you get executed by sentry guns with your enemy just sitting there laughing?

My third try was a bit better, but I accidentally switched my tank off. Oh and my 400 dps Maller ate my cap a lot faster then I accounted for.

Number of ignomious defeats: 3. Number of deaths: 1.

I have one last cruiser prepared, so let's see if I can actually record a fight and not a comedy routine, OK? Lol

Are we allowed to submit a video with a trial version of any recording software? For example, Dxtory has a free trial version you can download, the downside is there is a conspicuous dxtory logo right there on the screen during the entire video.

Hey mate

We have decided that we already got enough awards and will not include a Nano award. However the video will most likely include some good nano footage as it is one of the main methods in solo pvp and many of our judges are very experianced in that form for fighting.

So what you do with the machariels is up to you. You can use them to make your own footage and have some fun. But we are ofc open for more donations towards the main prize pool and we will distribute them accordingly.

Thanks for your support.

I am not really keen on that tbh. The video will (hopefully) feature some of the best solofights and I generally want it to look as professional as possible. Having a random icon appear doesn't seem to apeal that much to that.

You can try to use VLC as Daneel desribed here: http://failheap-challenge.com/showthread.php?10636-Easy-desktop-recording-without-FRAPS-a-test

However if you already got some good footage with it, I will probably not reject it. And we will not make a strict rule about it.
