I like the idea !

Eventually add an option to customize a cooldown. With "0" as a possible setup.
I understand the concerns of this being repetitive if you get hot dropped, but there is no need for this sound to be a buzzer. A simple, short, and discreet "bip" would do just fine. If you get hot dropped, you'll get many beeps but just like in movies !

Make it so that if multiple ships appear in the same server tick, it does not stack the beeps but rather makes multiple beeps one after the other. WIth a hard cap that you cannot stack beeps for more than a second long. So I guess maximum 8 beeps per second for one second, even if you get a thousand ships appearing on grid at the same time.

This is no small feature, so it could even have its one button next to the safety button. To toggle it on the fly. (You don't want that in Jita :D). Either a manual Toggle on/off for everything, or a separate toggle on/off for highsec , low sec, null sec, and W-space.(Null sec separate from W space).
And since there would be this button, it could even visually flashes (discreetely again) at the same time that it beeps. Or even better : Choose between sound, visual, or both.

+1 from me, would be a useful and hopefully relatively simple addition

Hate to be the Grinch arguing for a less useful interface, but this is taking something that currently relies on player competence, and makes it a no brainer.

When I've got a scout alt watching a grid, would it be handy to have an audible alert when someone shows up, or a flurry of alerts when a fleet does? You bet, but is it really a good thing? Without getting into the afk cloaking debate, there is something to be said for having to pay some level of attention to your scout to get value from it being there, this would mean I could even be tabbed out and still get the benefit.

If you need an audible queue to alert you of capitals arriving on field, I'm not really sure you deserve one...

In a game like eve, situational awareness is one of the good ways for players can play better, not just have more SP, and making it easier for those who aren't so situationally aware undermines that.

so you have a spaceship fit with all sorts of futuristic intergalactic gadgets but it shouldn't be able to detect a presence on grid?

ok..

Yes, I can build that.
