Basically I hate what I want to do with this character figured out, PVP.
I'm mostly interested in flying Stealth bombers and have the skills for that planned out mostly, but before that I really want to have an overall "core" combat skill set, I'm very confused as of now when it comes to that.

Best way to di it, imo, is to download evemon and the eft tool, build your ship with all fittings you want, then build a plan to train for that ship build. So you build a T2 fit for a bomber with EFT tool, then add all the modules and ship into evemon for the plan, your long term plan. You can then make a short term plan to get you into the ship and use named modules as you work towards the long term.

Pretty much most of the core skills you need will be added to the plan. In-game, open the mastery tab on the ship description which will let you know all the skills you will need, add any missing to your plan. Your long term plan made with evemon will go to mastery II or III, you can adjust your plan further as desired. Mastery IV is a good goal, V can take a long time.

Bombers? hmmm... you migjt want to add assault frig or interceptor to that plan, you will limit yourself too much with just bombers.

I'm in amarr FW for like 3 months now and I've never seen a bomber fighting. Guys use it to gank (especially other SBs) or use it on an alt as a surprise for anyone coming in to have a "duel" but I wouldn't invest into them. Especially if you're not caldari (and maybe minmatar but that's questionable) - you will have 1 ship and 0 skills to fly anything else if you're bored.

I would recommend anyone to just start a normal gunner career - you can quickly cross train to some other race and have quite a selection of ships (esp. since RFF, slicer and comet are all essentialy gun ships) instead of training missiles (the way I did) and have a stunning choice of playing 1 semi-brawler, 1 kiter, 1 long range niche dessi and corax. I like missiles and I will never stop using them, but think about all the support skills you need to invest for that SB fun. Are they worth it?

If you are more experienced than me, and do not starve for some variety - still don't SB as it will eat your skill points and just give you a tiny niche in exchange. There's ton of stuff worth skill up for that you can use daily.
