The EVE Store - Why is it still lacking so much?

The EVE store closed on October 31 last year as announced here

CCP announced the relaunch of the EVE store back on the 25th of April in a dev blog

A few things were put up on the EVE store; less than 10 total clothing items, disappointing to say the least. And nothing was in stock to start. But I held comfort in the fact that surely it was just because it was a new supplier, just launched, etc.

Now we're approaching 11 months since the closing of the old store and there is a severe lack of merchandise, available in stock, at reasonable prices.

I would like the CSM to bring this up to CCP and find out what is going on, why do they not have a quality store yet? There is a great opportunity for them to capitalize on, and I'm sure there are lots of EVE players that would like to have that merch. I know I would.

Important points to discuss:
  • Availability of all merchandise to all regions
  • Wide selection of merchandise
  • Reasonable shipping costs to all regions

I have to admit with all the everything else that has been going on, I had completely forgotten about the EVE store.

Yeah I guess we could at least ask.

Indeed. We will poke a few people and see if we can't get an update.

I'm late to the party I guess. I'll take this opportunity to yet again suggest build-your-own T3 models.Big smile

Yep, you're absolutely right, come to think of it. It's something we should bring up.

  • Apparently the store is being run by Mother Hubbard.

I'm still waiting for a definitive reply from CCP Eterne regarding whether the copy of symphonic score exists [yes, I know they performed a symphony...] so I guess I will patiently spin my ship ... for all of the awesome they make CCP sure seems slow, or realllly busy, when responding to the bajillion issues that pop up everyday.

... hard to tell if I just trolled myself ...

Still waiting for sheet music ...

O hey look there's 2 new items in the EVE Store. Now if I only wasn't going to get severely screwed for shipping and possibly customs / import duties. https://store.eve.com/delivery-und-dispatch

There are youtube channels with better merchandising sites than CCP.... makes me sad Sad

It's amazing to me how CCP apparently can't seem to manage to create a solid offering of a range of products that would be well-received by the community. Why is that?

How easy would it be for them to create attire that was not only available to the pod pilot inside the wonderful world of EVE but also, and in the same measure to the real-world player? What you wore in the game could be hanging in your closet.

This is supposed to be the age of the internet, we should be able to get these things.

Are there indicators that the 'market is not favourably disposed' towards EVE Online products [I can scarcely believe it].

Create a range of products for the Tranquility server and make something for the Serenity server.

Make us some merchandise, CCP! Allow us to represent.

I got myself a bag with 'CCP' on it at fanfest. Someone walked up to me in the street [not in Reykjavik] and asked "Ah, um... where did you get that bag?" "In Iceland." All that needed to be said was said. By the way, I love that thing, I take it everywhere.

Deck us out, guys. Give us some swag.

If you're really hard-pressed for ideas, send me a message, I'll start with 100 [one hundred actual ideas, not some random number I pull from my anal cavity] and we'll take it from there.

What are you waiting for? Make EVE real!

I suspect the problem with EVE merch is they have no idea what people actually want, certainly going by what's on offer right now. Maybe they need to experiment with something low cost- not tacky, necessarily, but leverages the brand. Take the shot glasses from fanfest- that's personally the best physical EVE thing I have right now:

Half the problem is the lack of merch, the other half is the lack of availability.

I couldn't find much recent data but according to this, in 2008 there is a ~40% North American demographic to EVE Online. Unfortunately CCP has chosen to only have a European distributor with outlandish shipping prices to North America.

If they could see the opportunity.... Offering merch at a reasonable price would expand the influence of the IP. Reasonable prices leads to more people buying merch. More people buying merch, expands the influence of the IP. Larger influence, increases the number of people trying EVE Online. More people trying EVE Online, means more subs for CCP.

If any of this is bad for CCP, can a dev please explain to me why?

It would definitely expose the world to the idea that EVE is indeed real. You'd have people coming up to you asking: what's that weird logo? What is that: EVE Online.

I've ordered the travel bag and the pilot shirt and I'll be happy to use those :-)

I'm pretty sure if they found an indie distributor in Oz that they would sell attire there as well.

Maybe someone in CSM 9 can be verbal about this issue, but that probably means waiting another 6 months Sad
