(I can't believe I'm about to say this.) I've been computer gaming longer than a good many of you have been alive. Yes, it's true. Before computers we used to have board games! Yes. Believe it. This vast experience, of course, qualifies me to post on forums with an arrogant impunity that would make Donald Trump's wig dance like a rabid marmot. But, I digress.

If you're new to EVE, it's likely you've played many, many other computer games. You're probably accustomed to a certain amount of proficiency at gaming...thus far in your experience. It's also likely, for more than a few, your first experiences in EVE will find you sort of not being as good as you figured you'd be as you downloaded the game and dreamed of neat spaceships with really HUGE GUNS! (Blowing stuff to smithereens, to the glory of...your gaming self.)

There's a reason for this, and as you progress over the months (which quickly turn to years...yes....) you'll come to understand that reason. For now, you need to realize this game is pretty OLD. There's a lot of OLD players playing it! Believe me, they KNOW what they're doing. Some are even interested in new players becoming good at the game (it could happen!)

What you need to do is respect this game. (I can't believe I'm going to say this.) What you need to do is respect the other players in the game. Guess what? The first thing "WE" do when we see "new" players is call up their ID panel (your ID panel) and look at the "Employment History" tab. One glance is all the more experienced players need to have more than a very good idea of your caliber as a player. Literally: How long have you been PLAYING?

This "game" requires TIME. You will NOT, ever never ever come storming into New Eden, a champion of "other games" and ride that glory train to victory here. Ain't gonna happen. Here, "Noob" really means Noob. ("Veteran" means something else, but I won't go into that here. I already get enough hate mail.)

You will NOT slide into the easy chair of EVE success until you've TRAINED TRAINED TRAINED TRAINED. (There's a lot of emphasis on training.) And, this takes TIME TIME TIME TIME. Time. There's no point in being in a hurry. One great thing about EVE is, you can play it for years. It's bottomless. There's no "game over" here. So, enjoy your time. Take your time.

And LEARN LEARN LEARN. The skill you're after will come to you. OH yes...don't forget to ASK ASK ASK, and READ READ READ. Reading is VERY helpful in this game. The info panel is your friend.

There you go. Enjoy. And, if this was any help at all, send money. If you found it boring, send money. If you found it annoying, SEND MONEY. ISK is your fuel. Use it wisely.

:-)

All it takes to do well in this game is to not have had a lobotomy and not be incessantly lazy. Newbies can do just fine when they put their mind to it.

In my experience, you learn more from the responses in these types of threads than you could from the OP.

Good effort though. Decent advice. After all, reading indeed made Don Quixote a gentleman.

I like being able to refer to myself as a "veteran."

Only when he's using his fleet booster character (Lord Kelemvor) which he claims he only ever uses to scan, yet the skill set shows different; with nearly 13m SP in fleet command... He would never ever fight anyone 1v1 in a fair fight.
