So my question is what ratio of volley damage do you guys think is good for the different sizes of artillery?

So the answer you're looking for isn't even a determinable answer relating to eve online, you're instead asking for opinions about what the numbers should be for an imaginary eve-online that exists in your head that no one will ever play.

Right.

My assumption is you want to scale damage based on the size of the 'tube' the weapon is firing out of.

Absolutely not. I'm trying to find out how much alpha strike is enough for a battlecruiser or destroyer to balance it for use in alpha fleets. I want to set the amount high enough to make them used in alpha fleets, but not so high that they become more valued than battleships. That's pretty much what I've already stated here, though.

To attempt to answer your absurd question, I will say that you don't just pull a number out of the air, you work backwards by first deciding how many ships should be able to alpha a given hull class, estimate an average HP for that given hull class, and divide the second number by the first number. Of course, you also need to consider how often a ship should be alpha'd off the field. Since its your imaginary game thats intended to have its own system of numbers.... why the hell are you asking us?

Sorry I can't answer how much theoretical alpha a ship would need until I know how much theoretical EHP the ship I'm shooting has.

The numbers in my version are very similar to the active game. The biggest difference is that battleships hit a bit harder and have a bit more HP but also move and align a bit slower. The ratio between alpha damages of these ships should be basically the same as what would be good for the currently existing ships.

I'm not saying the current values are wrong, but I'm not going to assume they are right. I guess what I really want to know is how often people fly artillery thrashers and hurricanes for the sake of the high volley damage, and how successful they are. If they are already balanced well, I will use similar numbers to what they have already. If they are not balanced, I will work from there.

But at this point, I still don't have any answers that actually address what I'm asking.

This should get locked or moved to OOPE. It's not EVE related at all

bingo, his pig not being a goat doesn't make the pig wrong, just him an idiot for shouting at his pig "WHY ARENT YOU A GOAT!" (Source)

It should get moved to ships and modules. It's completely EVE-related.
