C'mon, who cares about some fluff to camera movement when it is still as slow as on TQ and boring?

Better let's talk about that exciting d-scan window and slider and editbox and km/AU converter and...

Back to camera tracking: I'd like two modes. One is the view is referenced to the direction my ship is pointing. If I align it to look forward, it turns with my ship to always look forward. If I align it to look aft, it looks aft even as my ship turns.

The other mode is similar to the normal fixed mode, but it stays fixed... no mater what is going on on the screen INCLUDING STARGATE JUMPS. The only time the view direction changes is when I change it.

Forward/backward cameras would be really fun! The latter fixed camera would be fulfiled if we had a 'disable stargate camera changes' setting combined with the current 'tracking camera off' setting.

A neat byproduct of disabling the stargate cameras... you would be traveling the interstellar space pointing sideways, so you would get some novel views of that sexy jump tunnel.

Due to a bug that sometimes pops up you get that view now and then right now. This demonstrates that CCP could allow it to be shown if the user so desired that that is what they want.

Been testing out all the things on SiSi lately, and I absolutely love all the UI changes. However this is the single, only thing I found myself not liking.
I always have my dscan window separated into it's own permanently visible window, and I find myself checking and un-checking "Use Tracking Camera" in the dscan window A LOT. I loathe the tracking camera in pvp but it's a godsend when dscanning a system quickly.
Now, everyone is entitled to their own taste, and personally the radial style menu (when holding down and dragging the mouse to select something) isn't something i find myself using, like literally ever. To me it feels slow and somewhat awkward. I still love my right clicking and my checkboxes. It might not be as graphically fancy or innovative, but it's fast, efficient, and it works.

A suggestion would be to keep that checkbox in the Dscan window as well as the new changes. When the radial menu was introduced, we still had the right clicking option, so that people who prefer the old system can still use it. Why not do the same with the dscan window? I really don't understand the reasoning behind removing this little checkbox, so please enlighten me.

Use the keyboard shortcut c. Faster than a checkbox Pirate

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Try again. Pressing C is not the same thing, at all. What that will do is track, BUT it will offset the camera as to not be perfectly centered on the selected object. This is useless when using a 5 degree dscan.

it is the same thing after the changes, it toggles the tracking cam on/off, in whatever mode it was

Just tried it out and it seems you're right, having the tracking camera on, makes pressing C center on the object. Very nice. I stand corrected.
I still miss the checkbox however.

We've made some further improvements to the tracking camera behaviour and speed now in the build on SiSi. In particular, the FPS link to speed has been broken. As a result the tracking camera is now faster than the old standard speed regardless of graphic settings or the use of GPU cycles.

See what you think and let us know.

Cheers,
DZ

It is faster, especially when angle of rotation is not big (below 60 degrees or sth like that) difference is clearly visible.

I guess "good job" is in order and +1 like for you, sir.

I definitely appreciate the changes to speed, although now when a new item is selected the camera makes a "jump" in orientation and then moves smoothly for the rest of its travel. It's more easily noticeable when the new sections are an appreciably large angle away from the previous.

As far as the other changes, excellent work.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

It's still linked to FPS although the camera speed is a bit faster than before. With V-Sync off there is still a significant speed increase.

Another thing which bothers me is the automatic zooming to your ship while tracking camera is switched on. I think this was disabled on the previous Sisi build. Since I'm playing zoomed out with tactical overlay I was very happy about the change.

Could you please introduce an option to switch off the zooming in tracking modus? Or is there another way to do it?

I'm not sure if this is related to the tracking camera, but the camera is always completely zoomed in on my ship whenever I undock. It's somewhat annoying. I'll file a bug report for it later today.

I hate keyboard shortcuts - I recline when I pay Eve and can't reach my keyboard, period.

So make damn clickable buttons in the overview to turn tracking on/off and the same for drone commands. Buttons that are there all the time and are not hidden in a sub-menue - it's too much clicking right now.

Screw the damn keyboard shortcuts. Only propeller heads that like command line interfaces use them.

And what is this damn D-Scan spamming - make it repeat automatically. CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK WTF !!!!

I think all of this is just great! Awesome work! But, you're missing just one feature...and I would really love to see it... How about just locking the viewpoint? Like you did in the demo with the asteroid showing the polygon counts? How hard would it be to just lock the view on our ship so the we are always looking forward or aft or port or starboard?

Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback so far. We're taking a look at the FPS issue and have identified at least one more component of the motion where this is in play.

Please keep the checkbox in the D-Scan......
I dont like using the keyboard or radial menu...
and your mouse is already in the d-scan window if your using it, so its much easier to use.
There is no reason whatsover to remove it....
I use that checkbox dozens of times a day, its right where its supposed to be.

Thank you.,

i am happy that the checkbox isn't there anymore. Saves a few pixels and lets you display more actual information instead - without losing functionality.

btw since you are probably looking at the code for that right now. Could you link the camera sway to the "disable camera shake option"?

improved tracking camera works fine and the higher speed is more than welcome. thx :D
i even find the use of the on/off shortcut button better than the checkbox, which i didn't believe possible.
good job!
