Hello,

I am curios about how the EVE comunity land on the Cpt Phillips movie. EVE is know about having very intelligent people doing all level of pvp activities. Also, we.. love pirates. Just because they are intelligent and beware of all of the game mechanics.

I know that the majority of the EVE community is based in USA, people who hate the somalian pirates and also the somalian people (see black hawk down). I DO NOT wanna take conclusion over what is bad or wrong, I'm just really curios about how people feel about the movie, what's the general feeling about the somalians whom live in USA, etc.

Thank You.

You wanna know what I think about the movie?

I think the movie has nothing to do with EvE online.

I doubt that anyone who plays this game has romantic notions of real life piracy.

Wow way to make an EXTREMELY sweeping and judgemental statement.

Im certain that it will win you many friends and your influence will grow as a result.

Also Ridley Scott is not very good.

In the case I was blurred: is about piracy. Piracy vs civilized world which means taxes, politicians, taxes and ..taxes.

At worst this thread should be in OOPE

At best it should be locked

I saw Black Hawk Down. It didn't make me hate somali's, just Ridley Scott for wasting 2 hours of my life I will never get back. A stupid shouty "Oh look at us we are America f*ck yeah" movie that made no sense.

Also, yes, agree with Ramona, this needs to be moved or locked, what a stupid thread, and I know about Stupid, trust me.

He made Alien. And Gladiator. That's good enough for me.

I live in the US, and who the **** is Cpt Phillips, and why should I care?

Topic is completely irrelevant to eve and should be moved/locked.

Also, If someone plays eve, they must be very smart, right? Right guys? We're smart, yeah?

Unlike Ramona I'm not so upset by 'EXTREMELY sweeping and judgemental statement[s]'.

I have a hunch that your average American couldn't point to Somalia on a map. I know where it is, I know what it's like from second hand sources, I know about the events in Mogadishu. I simply don't care about Somalia. I think that's the strongest feeling you'd find from the average American towards Somalia, too. That is, if Ramona could pardon my 'EXTREMELY sweeping judgemental statement' to say so.

As far as that's concerned, it's a stretch to relate real life piracy to EVE.

fyi It's spelled, 'judgmental.' Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Never thought about it tbh, other than one is a game and the other RL.

But I have had my fair share of hate mail, so some do have issues differentiating game play and RL.

Ow you almost hurt my feeling with that one

You seem quite bothered by the fact other people might have an opinion on ill-informed and quite frankly ridiculously reactionary statements.

But if you don't think saying "All Americans must think this way.." is an extremely sweeping statement, you should probably check the meaning of the phrase out.

That said, you seem to think most Americans are stupid, so I suppose you do understand it, even if you can't actually put it into a recognisable or coherent thought.

And yes, you pointed out my spelling mistake twice. Good for you.

Here's a little gold star for you *pin*

Now you can be a cowboy.

This is interesting. I have friends who are Somalis, and frankly they are my only real interaction with the Somali people. From what they tell me, most people in their country are like them, its only the smallest minority are complete asshats and ruin the image for everyone. They also let me know that the rest of the world thinks America is full of John Wayne Douchebaggery, but from what they've seen they cant figure out why. I don't judge an entire culture based off the actions of a few pirates.

But hey, what do I know..right? I should judge everyone by what Hollywood shows me too. Im going to go paint my face and tuck some brush in my hat and wait in the yard for my Russian mailman. WOLVERINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are idiots, but us Americans do have a bloated, runaway, military budget, so at least we have that going for us.

It is a little known fact that the decline in RL pirates is the cause of global warming and that is why so many eve players like pirates.
