Losing on value , but winning on morale

Hey guys,

So yea my title could use some more work but wasnt sure how to describe it. Anyway little story inc so put on your bad grammar reading glasses on.

Today i had an interesting couple of fights vs 3 same corp neutral dudes.
First off i was in my wolf in a small plex in a gal controled fw system. Since rubicon i figured brawling got kind of an heads up because you can grab a mobile depot and refit to stabs on the fly when you are unable to catch kiters on the beacon or when you feel you will be ganked. So i had my fit with ab scram and what not.
So a dramiel pops on my d-scan,i did check the people in local and i was smelling a gank..but for some reason i stayed( guess it comes down to the fact that i want fights more then lp and i don't run away unless i really have no chance). I had my mobile droped and i was ready to swap to stabs if he was gonna kite me. Turns out where started fighting close range and was just about to kill him when i noticed an astero and hookbill on scan and also in that moment the dram pulled some range becuase of the lack or third mid slot to provide me with a web. His buddies came in so i tried going for the astero..no chance cause he was double rep and kiting me. When i noticed i wasnt gonna stand a chance i looked for my depot to escape when i realized the dram had pulled me 20 km away from it..so with my last ounce of hp i went for the hookbill with wrong ammo aswell but at that point it was to late to swap..sadly i couldnt kill him before i poped .
I wasnt upset at loosing a ship even though my wolf was 100 mil , i wasnt even upset about getting ganked cause i knew it was gonna happen , what i was upset about was not beeing able to kill atleast one cause they kept me at range with td's webs etc..like 3v1 wasnt enough ..but i guess thats eve.

Still , i felt i needed revenge for that , so i headed back to innia , bought and fitted a vengeance on the fly, then went back. I did find them and in the same setup as before,i w8 for them to leave so i could enter the plex thiniking they will come back cause they saw i was there and i stayed last time. My tactic was the same as before only know with the veng i felt i had more of a chance due to using rockets and a much better tank, also i started using boosters so with a normal exile i felt confident.
2 mins have passed and sure enough they did come back and sure enough same tactic for them aswell. So the dram entered , i get tackle and proceeded to shoot while in the same time the other 2 appeared on scan. This time because i had a web i did managed to kill the dram. Afterwards i went for the hookbill since i thought he will go down just as fast...but...surprise surprise , 2 wt showed up imd after..and i end up dead again..with the other neuts warping out because i was apparently more tasty then an astero...

So all in all it was fun , i did lose around 140 mil but i did kill the dram ( which had a terribad fit imo ) for 67-ish mil.
And for that , even though i lost more i kindah felt good about myself... Kind of like " yeah thats right , gank me more next time so i can kill you again "

And even though i said some bad things in local which they might have deserved and i was frustrated, i understand this is eve and people just roll like this in order to be efficient or to feel l33t.

Tl;dr. Had 2 fights both in which i lost but i got payback on the second by killing one and even though i lost more i felt good and consider i came out a winner.

Also, the reason why i felt posting this is becuase i think its a nice story and i also hope it wil inspire the newbros to not give up and that its not about the kb its the fun and challange you get out of it.

While reading this I had the rocky song in my head.

Eve is a game, if what you are doing is not fun DO NOT DO IT. What you here demonstrated is that you were in fact enjoying said game and met your objective which was to have fun :)

Now someone else, lets call him l33t360propvperofdoom will say 'OMG YOU NERD, why didn't you fit to FOTM ships and pwn his face with links, falcon alt and 18 ISBOXED miners on alts for iskies all at the same time while ******* your GF (I know right) and drinking at the bar with your bro's because you're to cool for gaming.'

Keep at it man, same with everyone else. Let eves **** talk slide right off and keep on pewing :D

that's when you're supposed to post in local:

"HOW BAD ARE YOU? 3v1 AND YOU LOSE A DRAMIEL?! LOLOL YOU'RE TERRIBLE."

and they know it's true

and they get mad

Heh my respect goes out to you. My personal opinion is while Fotm ships and setups can give you a good foundation where to start it also gives you a good foundation to counter. I fly a very unique ship and setup and most people would look at the hull and say its a joke ship and will burn. Fly to have fun and don't follow the mases. Experiment and you might unlock some masts tricks of your own.

Yes mate. Im sure u know that the blobs are many. I also prefer to fly brawl setups so instead of beeing kited while my tank goes slowly and i can't do anything about it i rather refit on the fly with stabs and just leave instead of losing a perfectly good ship for nothing.

Also , its nice to fit refit to counter anything that might get in

As someone regularly running after the stabbed guys, I kinda liked this post! Pirate

Even though you lost more money it seems you had a good time losing it. So that's money well-spent in my mind. I think a 100m wolf is a little bit overkill, maybe from now on you will fit slightly cheaper... it doesn't sound like you would have lost against that dramiel with a slightly worse fit. So take that as a learning moment, and enjoy the victory regardless! Good luck on your future fights.

As long as you don't go full ****** with lol bling fits that make no sense who gives a fck if you win the isk war, it's about blowing **** up and taking down as many as you can before the blob clowns finally take you out.

It is very common that when things does not go so well, you will find out some reason why you are doing good and then you can continue living with yourself.

It is very commonly used mantra that we had fun and we exploded.

I always love those kinds of fights. The best ones are when you come into a fight you should lose, like two Guardians, instaLoki, and two other BCs, and you're in a kitchen sink of six T1 cruisers without ewar/logi and you somehow kill them all and lose one ship in return. The best part is when they try to **** talk you in local for blobbing them.

It's those things that make it for me. So more power to you man. For everyone it is something more than the killmail. For those that focus only on the KM, they are the ones who don't truly win the game.

There's the part where you went wrong.

On a more serious note, i can not figure out what this thread is about.

So if i am in a brawler and a kiter shows up , and i can't catch him in scram web on the beacon , then what ? should i just stay and die .. for nothing ?

no thanks , i play smart

Me, I'm so sick of being kited that I've started trying out various MWD brawler setups. They work.

Yes,that is another way of handling it,but..

With a mobile depot inside the plex one can quickly refit his ship to what ever fit works to counter what shows up on dscan..thats what i do

Don't listen to Zen. He's rubbish at pvp ;)
As someone who tends to favour brawlers I usually rely on either picking the right fight in the first instance or catching kiters on the warp-in (it's a great skill to master) but I quite like your solution as it gives extra gtfo so you don't have to be quite so "balls deep".

Ofc you can also attempt to slingshot kiters ...but I've never been very good at that :)

You can be the Grand Zulu master of catching kiters and you still won't grab all of them. As a brawler myself i set on the beacon/warp in all day in every plex..and sometimes i catch, sometimes i don't...

Bottom line is , i rather swap to stabs the moment i see i have no chance to kill the kiters instead of dying foolishly and not playing smart

As Aldap has said: Sometimes the best fights are the ones where you lose / dont kill anything.

Great attitude. I wish there were more people with a similar attitude. To me, pvp in eve is about improving your skills and getting challenged. Fighting against the odds is the best way to achieve that.

QFT. Dammit, I had a GREAT fight against a Vengeance in my T1 Rupture and I was about to win, but it turned into a disengagement and 15 minutes of absolutely lovely banter with the other pilot, who turned out to be a very social fellow. No KMs were created but I still had a great time not winning or losing.
