Heavy drones - CCPs joke.

With all the current moaning about drone assign you would be forgiven for forgetting about our poor friends the heavy drones.

With lower DPS and being easily speed tankable, not to mention actually having to travel to shoot stuff, why should players use heavy drones over sentry drones? They are a bad joke, much like 'defender missiles'.

Do you even Ishtar?

The Ishtar platform gives drones the buff they've needed for a while.

Heavy drones have more damage and tracking than sentry drones

Heavy drones melt faces if you charge headlong into blaster range.

The Eos and Navy Vexor are designed to be heavy drone carriers (ishtar is good for both). They are brawling ships, and when you're brawling, you're gonna want heavy drones anyway. Assuming they catch a target, they can do a very good job hitting smallish stuff. The big issue with heavy drones is aggro in PVE, although there is some vodoo magick about that allows a 100mn AB ishtar with 2 navi computers to get 751 dps out of Wasps and pretty much kill sanctums without the drones taking any aggro.

Wasps with 2 t2 navicomputers and HAC 5 can move pretty damn fast.

The unfortunate side effect here is making heavy drones usable on all ships will make them stupidly OP on the few ships that currently use them well.

Perhaps rather than changes to the drones themselves, a few new modules could be introduced that give benefits to the drones. There's already the tracking, control range, and damage mods. How about a drone speed mod? A drone MJD module, where they appear on a target rather than having to fly out?

Drone Navigation Computer already boosts drone speed.

Confirming that Berserker IIs are awesome at ranges where sentry drones start sucking (sub 12kms).

you can freely move on grid without loosing your drones at some point, still being able to recall them at range.

They are too slow and often die before you can recall them.

When discussing weaknesses of heavy drones vs fast frigates: baltec1- " A thanatos with a flight of geckos killed a bomber gang while AFK. So yea, they track frigates just fine." https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4678049#post4678049

In short-ranged battleship warfare, Ogre II is better then sentries. For example, a blaster Mega or a neut gheddon getting up in your face and sic-ing Orges on you is not to be laughed at.
