We're making some improvements to the tracking camera UI and behaviour in Rubicon 1.1. The work-in-progress on these changes is currently on SiSi but some changes are planned and being worked on.

If you have any feedback on the tracking camera UI and behaviour then please do let us know in this thread.

Please note, this is solely about the tracking camera. We would appreciate it if you restrict comments to that topic, thanks.

Our goals for 1.1 are to consolidate the controls for the existing functionality and make the various different states that the tracking camera can be in much clearer.

The new consolidated controls are now found in a small radial accessed through the 'Camera Controls' button on the HUD, which replaces the 'Reset Camera' button. The reset camera functionality can still be accessed via this radial. Icons are placeholders.

We'll update this thread as we push out changes closer to the final design for 1.1.

Cheers,
DZ

How about speeding up the tracking camera when being used with dscan? You know, like how it was before scrubs complained about it.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

I agree the camera tracking speed is much too slow. (On TQ. i havent tested this on sisi yet.)

tested it and i really like the changes. You can now toggle the cam in dscan mode on/off via shortcut, it no longer conflicts with the custom tracking position mode and you also removed the checkbox which was never updated if you used the shortcuts.

love the changes, same functionality just nicer presented and even easier to use.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

i forgot to mention: the cam movement speed is still FPS based. the faster the rendering the faster it does move. I know some solo pvpers who disable vsync for the lone purpose to be able to dscan quicker. Maybe have an option somewhere to change the speed but have it FPS independent? It feels wrong to put your GPU on 100% load just to make the cam faster move

+1 for faster camera movement.

Or maybe we could get rid of camera movement completely and just instantly set it toward selected object? That would reaaaally help d-scanning. Although same functionality is used when we jump (camera pans toward next waypoint or gate we just jumped through if there is nothing further planned in route) and blitz cam change might be confusing especially when you jump to bunch of flashy reds so maybe an option for it? Option with keybind preferably.

It's interesting to see how you guys are consolidating actions in radial menus.

However, is it not possible to keep the tracking camera checkbox in d-scan?

To be honest, it feels a lot more appropriate for it to be visible in the d-scan window particularly when roaming etc., otherwise at the moment I can't see when I have the camera centered option activated or not until I click on a celestial and then watch my screen dance!

I think an instant camera flip might make people feel a bit nauseous, speeding it up is probably the best bet.

Some good feedback here. We're taking a look at the speed and FPS issue.

We'll also be looking to indicate the tracking camera mode (center or custom) with an icon change on the radial button.

Hope to have those changes on sisi shortly.

I recorded a short clip of myself using the tracking camera to dscan. It took ~25 seconds to scan 7 celestials: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh9ftuzNh2Q

Some further feedback on the camera's movement:

A) the maximum camera rotation speed is too slow (which is basically what I mentioned above)

but also

B) if you plotted the rotation speed versus time, you would see a linear section in the middle (where the camera is moving at maximum velocity) and 'easing' curves at the start and end. this 'smooths out' the rotation. However the easing is too slow. In the very first celestial I scan in the video, I have time to spam 'scan' 7 times in the last few degrees of movement. Make it snappier - reduce this easing time by a lot!

Hello all,

Thank you for looking into the tracking system. I am under the impression that many people have been confused as to why there was not a system in place for 5 degree and tracking linked together and also what the custom tracking had to do with most of our activities. The Changes look nice.

About tracking speed: As I understand it the tracking speed of the camera is somehow linked to fps. I disabled my V-sync on the third day of the patch and have been enjoying a snappy tracking camera since then. I will be honest as a solo pvper it is incredibly nice to have that advantage but I cant say that its fair. I understand there are advantages that people with faster rendering get such as the ability to look at weapon systems with higher graphics enabled but tracking is time, and time is very important in pvp. Most specifically its important in frigate pvp. I have been looking at some of my Twitch footage and there are cases where I can scan down every plex in a system at 5 degrees in under ten seconds. Although I think that is awesome I feel everyone should have the ability to do so, or restrict me and the others with amazing machines back down. I vote for fast tracking.

Thank you for your time,

ZAO

Please bring back the tracking option to the directional scanning window. This was a great addition and will be sorely missed if it's actually removed. I generally hate the tracking camera, but it's great for things like scanning so you know exactly which way your scanner is pointing.

In case people aren't sure what I'm talking about, this is the scanner window currently on SiSi - http://puu.sh/6fkYU.jpg (notice they've removed the option for the tracking camera).

I know it supposed to be only feedback on camera tracking but since you already touched d-scan window would it be such a problem to add to editbox with kilometers functionality of remembering previously entered values? Same as we have for searches in other places like market, skills, inventory, etc.

That would be awesome change and boost to d-scanning.

Please, pretty please :)

You now have 2 available options for the tracking camera, center and custom location. So you can still use it for d-scan, just toggle the center location on.

just gonna sneak these two dscan requests through, sry for non-tracking-cam post, i simply cant stop myself from giving CCP karkur little things to think about
1. Allow me to type explicit units e.g. 1500km, 4.5au. default to km ofc
2. Let me click anywhere on the angle slider and drag to set, not just on the tiny handle

or at least lose the linearity of the slider. there is a big gap between 180 degree and 360 degree and 5,10 and 15 degrees are all cramped in the very left corner of the slider.
i don't know about you other guys but i never used the dscan in the 263.5 degree mode. the labeled presets make sense so maybe just space them equally and let the slider 'snap' to the next position on drag?

Will do!

This thread is now about CCP karkur!

(Looking forward to popping into SiSi tonight and taking a look at these camera changes.)
