Eve resolution is not supported by screen

My monitor died and I have had to replace it with a television until I can get a new one, however I am having problems getting it to work with Eve.

With my old monitor I was playing Eve in 1280x1024 resolution, now when I try to start the game I get a blue screen and the monitor displays an error that reads 'not support mode'. This appears to be because Eve is trying to start in a resolution or refresh rate that the tv cannot display.

Eve is definitely running, the launcher music and laser sounds can be heard and if I enter my password it says 'connecting' as normal.

I have tried renaming the Prefs file in the cache, removing the Prefs file to the recycle bin, and removing the entire cache folder to the recycle bin. I have also tried opening the Prefs file and changing the resolution values (1024 and 1280) to values which my tv supports (900 and 1440), but still cannot get past the blue screen and the error message. I have been unable to identify any value which relates to refresh rate, if indeed there is one at all.

Please can I get some advice as to how I can change the resolution (and refresh rate?) from outside the game, or am I stuck until I can get a proper monitor. Alternatively, is there a way to set it to start in windowed mode?
