Keep in mind, new players, that members of the same corporation can shoot each other legally in all areas of space.

There's not much reason for people to do this to you (chances are you don't have anything worth going to that much effort to steal), but you can do it to others.

Look for a corp and keep in mind some of the OP's comments. Get into it, then pick the time to strike and burn/steal everything.

One blemish on your corp history is easily talked out of - just tell a future recruiter that you decided to leave because a corpmate started doing something abhorrent (making jokes about the Holocaust, or linking Justin Bieber videos in corp chat, or something vile like that) and you decided to shoot them and leave.

The last paragraph made me smile. But that has a more personal reason

Very good guide!

Recruiters are usually the ones that are the ones new players ask most of the questions too and most of us are more than willing to help people we bring into our groups.

Be careful of the "used car" sales approach where they say if you don't join today that you will not be able to join later as the spot will be gone. These guys are looking to fill bodies to throw where they want.

Also want to add that if you know what type of ships you want to fly, ask your recruiter if they have a place for your ship preferences, as a lot of (especially null sec corps and alliances ) have doctrine ships they want you in most of the time and might not use the ships you want to use.

Of course, doctrine ships change from time to time. But finding a group that allows you to use a type you want would be best.

Also, If you been in a corp for a while and have a decent handle on what is going on, ask if you can help your recruiter out if you want more responsibilities. This will give you main recruiter more time to play the game instead of having to sit somewhere to talk to new guys and will appreciate the help, even if you are just screening them for him to view later.

Captain Meric:

A lot of useful tips in that post and they have now all been added!
I would also like to point you towards this guide, because i suspect you might have a few things to add there as well Smile

General:

Thank you everyone for the bumps and comments. As usual i hope someone has been able to find their "forever" home by using some of the tips in this guide, and i hope that people will continue to show this guide to new (or old) players who struggle with the corp search. Its much appreciated!

CCP:

Please give us a higher character limit because now i only have a few 100 characters left to use. And since this is such a broad subject with so many small (and some big) things to cover its very hard to make sure everything gets included.
Either that or use a magical wand or something and give me an extra post to use on the first page so i don't have to make a third version of the guide Lol

Also, i want to say thank you for adding this to the EVE New Citizens Q&A Resources, its much appreciated and it means a lot Smile

It's time for a bump to get it back where it belongs...on page 1 so that new players can more easily see it.

As one of those noobs that is currently window shopping for a Corp. (one of the first posts I read on here was to do a lot of looking and find the right corp for you) so that is what Im doing, and I found this post invaluable to my search.

Thank you for taking the time to put this together for us.

I reviewed this post often when I began my search for a new corps and wanted to make my way into either null sec or in my case wh space. Maybe these points will be of use to some of you.

1. I talked to several corps. I know this sounds crazy because I am not anything special, but I made it clear at the beginning that I would be taking a critical look at the corporation and that I would not make a decision to apply until I was satisfied.

2. When accepting a conversation I did a quick check of the corps, its membership numbers and life span. I was surprised by the number of 2 man corps who were more than willing to recruit.

3. I insisted on a voice interview. If a recruiter was only willing to chat but not voice convo, I was polite but knew that I would not be joining. When I was on voice I asked questions which are basic to practically every circumstance. Who? What? Where? When? and How? I also wanted to have a clear discussion about the future plans and goals of the corps and its role in the alliance or its overall structure. I didn't accept, that we log on and blow **** up as an acceptable answer. My follow-up question was even more difficult. Given your "plan" where are you in the plan, and what areas do you feel like you need members to improve. Again unacceptable answers ranged from "we need more pilots to pew pew" to "we really need a qualified FC."

4. I intentionally sent my full api and awaited a response from the corps inviting me to apply. I also decided that the way that process was handled, showed a lack of leadership and lead me to decide that I wouldn't make the actual application, but would instead continue my search.

5. In my circumstance, I also make it clear that voice communications, meaning lots of people talking and socializing with one another was important. I surprised by how many corps didn't. One of the main reasons for me wanting to be drug into the chat channel was to gauge the response of the corps rank and file with a new member present.

6. There is a channel called "unemployed", which is spam free, where the individual looking for a corp can post a line. Its the opposite of the recruitment channel. I had more success with that channel than I did any other resource when it came to finding corporations that were looking for players.

Nope. I'm just a person who doesn't play too well with most groups, so finding that 'special' bunch that truly fit me is very very hard. And thus I gave up.

A lot of text about how you interviewed corps.

Spoken like a true beaurocrat.

Unemployment channel is excellent.

Finding corps that will let you tag a long until you decide whether or not to join (and are still willing to engage you in coversation when you go somewhere else) is much more useful.

I work in corporate america. I can make a plan and lie to you all day. You're better of seeing a corp in action a few times.

Well now i feel really embarrassed Oops
I was sure that i had included the channel "Unemployment" in there (its possible it accidentally got cut during one of the many many edits and changes with the space restrictions).

Its now included, and while there is a thank you note to Woeful Animation i could not link it due to having...well about 50 characters left Sad

Who knows, maybe i need to make version 3.0 and reserve a couple of extra posts Lol
