I wonder how fast Dictor~in~a~box will deteriorate into a TTP joke?

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Of course you are.
All manner of intersting games that can be played with this.

Bombers-in-a-Box (a new and entertaining varient of "Jack-in-the-Box").
BLAP-Fleet-in-a-Box.
Drones!Drones!Drones! (like kicking a hornets' nest)
Nothing-in-a-Box
Cyno-in-a-Box (Hotdrop-in-a-Box? A whole new kind of carry-out! Big smile )

The list is just getting started...

its lot of fun, yes?

AND it can all be sumerized as "pull down ur pants and bend over, cuz u have no intel lolololololo"

If you go up to an obvious trap like a big obvious box and flip it over without taking some basic precautions, you deserve what you get. I see *nothing* in the module description that prevents you from gathering intelligence - you'll just have to do it with a scout.
In person, instead of halfway across the system.
OooOOoh! Difficult!

Not.

Inside deadspace, yes - no intel until a suicide scout jumps in to identify what's there before being rapidly killed; and since these are just announced and not finalised yet, I hope CCP has the dev sense to balance them somehow in deadspace.

Outside deadspace though, covert ops become an important part of operations and this opens up some opportunities for gameplay that personally, I like.

You're not going to want to warp a covops anywhere in the direction of one of these in nullsec, especially if you have to scan it down first.

Deadspace is an obvious issue, but my initial response to that is "Send something like an Inty in, land, scan, and burn like a lunatic." Even if that's not viable, I'm pretty sure tactics will develop to deal with the situation.

this can be used offensivelly too right before infiltrating a system. or as psychological warfare.

Approaching these from a safe is unlikely to hit a bubble.

Make safes first before warping in and it should be ok. I would be wary of warping directly from celestials, gates and stations, but then my other character doesn't scan from these locations either. It's always from a safe made either just before scanning, or previously made.

However if someone is vigilent/OCD/paranoid/smart/bored enough to place a full sphere of bubbles around one, then good luck to them. My bad if I lose a ship and that's part of the game. For the most part though I find people do the least amount that is still effective, so it's unlikely that there will be bubbles on an approach from a well made safe.

I really see no practical use for the scan inhibitor other than traps. If you are hunting and see one, you would know one of two things. Someone has some bling they don't want you to see, or it's a trap. I just don't see much use for it other than for traps. Kind of like lighting the cyno when a frig gang is in system and smartbombing them (if they fall for it and fly into your bubble).

Seems to me it would be good for disguising changes in fleet configuration, and as a staging area for fleets, pre-combat. Which are, I suppose, forms of trap. But not forms that involve ambushing someone up-close and personal.

In either case, the intelligence game becomes much more active and dangerous - You have intelligence assets which now need to be actively defended against intrusion by highly-capable and determined scouts, so things become... Interesting. Once your opponent sees what's inside the box, the box becomes useless - So expect a spirited defense.

Also useful for disguising Tower defensive configurations... Which is, I suppose, also a form of trap, but is more a defensive intelligence-denial kind of trap.

Or, they could be your various gank-traps for the unwary. Which will become notorious so fast that most folks will stay far away. But some will come nosing around to see if they can break your shiny trap.

Edit:
Also - Disguising temporary bridges. If you're staging a fleet through a system, the ability to conceal your numbers/configuation adds to the element of tactical surprise

IOW: Content.

So if its 30 km out, whynot just warp at 100 to the farthest one and then report?

To be honest, if it were *my* masking box, that's about where I'd be putting some defenses. Of course, an inty landing, taking a quick shufti, and buggering off is the way to handle that. Unless the defenses are well-planned... In which case alternate tactics would be needed.

Since the bubble won't show on d-scan, all my bomber has to worry about is decloaking cans/drones/wrecks at his warpin point.
There's gonna be some sweet midwarp bookmarks with no clear approaches, i love this, it adds to the problem solving part of the leadup to combat.

I just had a nasty thought... I wonder... Could a masking box hide a wormhole? Oh, if so... That has so MANY interesting possibilities...

That is my thought as well, but then I'm not a Null pilot. I would just send my covert-0ps scanning alt to go and take a loot. Warp to 50-70 from a safe, and see what is on grid. Never uncloaked and never spotted.

Only the wide-spread spill of cans artfully scattered across the more obvious landing points. Unless you're thoughtful, in which case you may very well miss them. Blink

Heh. The *real* pirates will be the ones running most of the gank-boxes.
Of course, it *is* likely that the wannabes will be a major portion of their prey.
Which is fine.
