TLDR, read only topic. It sounds like a good idea! Better include both sides:

1) Getting ganked: have a career agent send you on a mission to a nullsec station, completed by either docking or being podkilled.

2) Suidicide ganking: have a career agent equip you with an instant lock frigate and send you on a mission to suicide gank a random pod pilot, with a recommendation to shoot pods and shuttles.

Make it into a two or 3 mission chain, teach them how to use the map and its statistics, refer to outside sources for more indepth info, Eve Unis guides are excellent. Tell them to insure their ship.

This is good, I like this. The possibility of newbies catching billion isk+ pods afking around would be hilarious. Obviously they'd get Concordokkened and killrights, sec status hit is down to the devs and community feedback as being instructed to do so by a tutorial agent is not a normal situation.

The sooner that newbies learn that PvP, in all of its myriad forms, is the norm and that it can happen anywhere, the better their time in Eve will be.

They'll also get banned for podding rookies in rookie systems but I guess getting banned for griefing is all part of learning the game so +1.

Get them young, turn them into a pack of blood hungry wolves before the "pvp is teh evil, gankers are also teh evil" brigade get their claws into them.

The problem with the NPE is that it doesn't deal with the dark side of Eve, somewhat reflecting that Devs are discouraged from taking part in it. It presents some of the "respectable" professions but completely ignores all of the "disreputable" ones. There's 10 professions listed when you hover on the sandbox link at www.eveonline.com/, out of those 10, 4 possibly 5 are outlined in the tutorials.

Don't ya just love how the carebears will scream about attracting/retaining new players? Never mind that, the vast majority of early quits come from the "PVE only never PVP" camp.

It's almost like, when we get new players involved with the fun "dark" side of EVE, they want to stick around! If only there were some way to introduce newbies to that side of the game, some kind of tutorial....

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

I find it more sociopathic to refuse to take any action to defend yourself and be suprised when you get rolled.

that doesn't even make any sense. At least learn definition of sociopath and you won't make yourself look like an idiot when you say "its fine".

I agree with OP. This game has been rewarding for sociopaths who do not put themselves in any risk for far too long.

Sociopaths have it very easy and it is pretty ridiculous the number of grief monkeys who somehow think high-sec pirates should have it so easy as they do. Sociopaths have flocked to this skill-less game because they know they can get away with ******* people over without putting themselves in any risk at all. Pretty sad and pathetic, along with the no-life forum dwellers who actually try to defend these broken mechanics.

Oh, don't shy out. Why stop at ganking?

New players should be spawned in a random spot of a 0.0 security system, in the middle of hisec. They will be teached to control the ship and will be informed that they need to warp through a gate to make it to safety -but those gates are permacamped.

The right kind of player, will ask for help, will have friends ingame or will make them on the spot, or wil research how to survive to the test.

The wrong kind of player will die a few times and will quit before wasting everybody's time.

In the long run, many are the called and few the chosen. So let it be from the start.

Don't be so dramatic, that's an absurd misrepresentation of what's being said, nobody is suggesting that newbies be dumped in the Coliseum and fed to the lions for our entertainment, amusing as that would be we'd run out of newbies fairly quickly Evil

Any tutorial involving the other sides to Eve would be just as optional as the current ones.

That's the spirit!

I seriously considered this as a recruitment measure in a former corp. Like an obstacle course for new recruits. Flunkies said I was sadistic and cruel and practically a goon. Tch.

Hauler ganker alt posting to say: +1

Ganker griefers simply are sociopaths. I literally just made a post about this, before reading this one. Coincidence, griefers?

Their constant denial and defense against it, when you claim it, really is the best kind of tear.

Stopped reading when you put bullies and sociopaths on the same level.

Why?

Because they aren't even remotely connected.

A sociopath is a highly intelligent human being with an above average complex personality who simply enjoys making you his victim by manipulating you simply because he absolutely can, while a bully is a sad ****** who needs to pick on the weak as compensation for all those actions he suffered from by others.

A sociopath could create a bully, but not vice versa.

bingo, his pig not being a goat doesn't make the pig wrong, just him an idiot for shouting at his pig "WHY ARENT YOU A GOAT!" (Source)

The burger already agreed it was as ridiculous to called those that play Eve as gankers sociopaths, as it was to call chess players murderers.

Unless the burger has flipped in this regard and now thinks both to be true?

  • What is the goal, then, of a typical miner gank, though?

With no strategic or economic benefit from this action, the only justification for it is psychological, meaning that it is simply the satisfaction derived by one person resulting from the destruction of another person or their assets. Pleasure resulting from destruction for no gain is not an inherent trait in most people. It's the behavior of a bully..

I think you demonstrate a significant lack of imagination.

Look at my bio and my corp and you will see just one reason for ganking miners. Read the bios of those that participate with me and you will see some RP reasons for them joining me.

Also, I reject your notion that SG of miners is not profitable. It very much IS profitable. Most ganks result in a very small net gain or break even for my crew. When we screw up (which we do regularly) then of course it is a complete loss. However, there are always those few that make up for it. It always amazes me to gank an untanked Mack whose pilot is afk. Last night a pilot lost a very tasty T2 Mack fit while he was away. Even more amazing was the 179 mil in implants he lost when we podded him. We got about 35 mil in bounty from him as well as about 10 mil in dropped loot. Not bad return for 7 mil in ships. So there is economic gain for me while I help educate miners in proper fitting techniques and situational awareness.

The thing I consider fascinating about these threads is the fact that I've played the game for nine years on six different accounts, mostly running three simultaneously.

    - None of the new accounts has ever been part of a big alliance (in fact I created most of them because my older accounts got too involved with alliance nonsense and I just wanted an option to log on and not having to talk to anyone).

    - In at least 20 000 hours of logged in character time, I had one unsuccessful suicde gank attempt on me.

So what the hell is wrong with all you people claiming to get ganked in your trial period??

So long as non-compliant miners exist, non-compliant miners are going to keep dying.

I've told people I'm about to kill them - as a response I get "f*ck off" and they just keep mining in their untanked mackinaw. There's nothing you can do to stop these people from doing what they are doing. Already with 5 minutes of research they could put a grinding halt to their not-so-inevitable demise, yet here we are.

You're fighting against windmills here. There is no cure against mining-zombies.
Hell, I've motored on up to the cattle, slow-boat style, parked my gankalyst right in front of them, and *locked* them... And got no response. How can you *not* put something that brain-dead out of ts misery..? "It's a mercy killing, yer honor!"

Sure, seems a chill idea to me. :) Send the poor lil' greenie on a one-way mission into RedSpace, can't complete the tutorial until they take the pod express back to their starting point. Then pat them on the head, give 'em a shiny new n00bship, and carry on with the tutorials.
