That, or just the opposite. Tell the community that they'll run their company the way they want and the community should HTFU. Actually, silence on the issue is a pretty good raise of the middle finger to everyone.

Wow - so many people posting about being annoyed with a subject no one forced them to read and so many people feeling entitled to post about other peoples self-entitlement...

Despite the sharply declining quality of trolls on these forums, the sheer display of stupidity displayed in Eve GD is on a steep rise.

Entertaining, but hardly worth a response.

Anyhow - looks like CCPs plan to deal with the issue is somewhat like this...

Personal opinions aside, what more are people looking for there to be said regarding this?

I can think of a few ideas for starters:

"We screwed up; we never should have given away such rare and valuable prizes in a manner that let a third party dictate who could particpate, let alone allow a third party to choose the winners."

"We screwed up; we should have realized that such a giveaway could be controversial, and we should have run it by the CSM before it was announced, instead of letting it become a PR nightmare. From now on, we will run such third party giveaways by the CSM prior to taking action, so that the CSM can act as the safeguard against the appearance of dev favoritism like they were originally intended to be."

"We screwed up; we shouldn't have given "recognition" behind closed doors, with no clearly defined criteria as to what would qualify a group or individual for such recognition. Doing so in such a secretive manner gives a strong appearance of impropriety at the very least. Here is our new list of requirements for such recognition, which from now on will always be given publicly."

"We screwed up; we never should have favored one site over other similar sites by providing them with prizes which would drive customers to their site and away from their competitors; this is interferring in the market, and as impartial referees it was wrong for us to do. Going forward, all sites who wish to participate in such events may do so, and here is the new application process..."

"We screwed up; we should have at least given a cursory investigation into an organization's history and financials before partnering with them and vouching for their record of reliability. Now that we have learned that SOMER Blink is in fact a real-life for profit business, all player accounts associated with the SOMER Blink corporation and organization will be banned in accordance with the EULA rules concerning the use of EVE game accounts for business purposes."

"Oh, here's that dev blog we promised months ago."

"Oh, and here's the survey regarding what gifts players find acceptable that we promised months ago as well."

"Where we really screwed up is just going silent on the whole matter and halting all communication with our paying customers. Our customers are important to us, and in the interest of transparency, you deserve a full explanation. Especially given our past track record, such transparency is the only way for us to maintain and restore trust, confidence and respect. With that in mind, here is what happened, here is what will happen, and this is how we will prevent such problems in the future..."

Why a switch on/off? Because the new animation doesn't add anything to gameplay and it's graphically annoying. In other words, it's worse than bad: it's useless. Simple as that.     _ - Kina Ayami_

From the Massively article published on October 10, 2013...

Quote:
After a few days of fan caterwauling, CCP has issued a lengthy and detailed response built to clarify what happened, why it happened, and what it means. First, CCP explained that the Ishukone Watch Scorpion is a promotional item with no value beyond that which is created by its rarity. The studio also noted that only 132 ships exist, all of which were handed out by CCP to community contributors. CCP explained that giving away the ships to fansites and contributors was meant to be a continued initiative but is now on hold.

CCP also clarified a few things about the SOMER.Blink giveaway specifically, noting that the secrecy mandate was issued by a SOMER staffer and not by CCP itself and that the size of the SOMER giveaway was bigger than that of previous giveaways because of the larger size of the SOMER.Blink staff. The studio concluded by explaining that it is not happy with the way things turned out and that it is pausing all plans for in-game rewards for third-party contributors while it works out how to thank community members without upsetting the economy (or player perception of that economy).

In line with this, CCP basically maintains that they happily support third party initiatives until people cry about it, at which point they abate their support and wait for these sorts of things to simply blow over.

Seems par for the course on everything to be perfectly honest.

Kind of reminds me of an analogous RL situation:

-There was an international exchange program. Some visiting people were placed in cities. They got good salaries, but had to rent apartments. Some people were placed in rural villages. They got the same salaries, but the village governments often gave them a free place to live. An old house or something. It was kind of a perk for having to live out in the mountain boondocks.

-"Not fair!" yelled the exchange visitors in the city. "We have to pay rent, but the guys out in the country don't. We want free rent too." They kind of organized themselves and made it a big ugly, ongoing issue for everybody involved.

-The national host government had to do something; it couldn't stand the whining and whinging anymore. It hadn't budgeted for free apartments for every one, it had only budgeted for salaries for them. So paying the urban visitors' rent wasn't an option. The only way to make it equal for everyone was to require that the villages also charge the visitors rent.

-Net effect: Those who didn't have the benefit didn't get it. Those who did have the benefit lost it.

-Moral (and as they say in the law profession): No good deed goes unpunished.

Generally, people whine and ***** when someone else isn't as miserable as they are. Make everyone miserable, and the whiners mostly shut up; It's one of the uglier aspects of human nature - "no one is allowed to get ahead of me, no matter how good my situation might be."

Or, to put it as my father did: "The nail that stands up is the one that gets hammered down."

They want CCP to beg their forgiveness and offer them free ****.

Also, they want Blink to be publicly punished, because people love watching others be punished.

CCP does not owe you an explaination for their actions. No matter how stupid they may have been. The fact that a majority of people on these forums seem to think otherwise is, by definition, entitlement mentality.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. CCP is not some government that has to account their every action to its people. It's a company like any other in the world and you are its customer. Yes they ****** up. We know it, CCP knows it. Just because they didn't publicly acknowledge it doesn't mean they ignored it. Deal with it and move on already.

last time i saw markee dragon's bio, it said something to the effect of 'it only took me 7 days to beat your game'. Twisted

it's been mostly resolved. the gtc loophole got closed, no more stuff is being given away for now, and navigator is gone. but i don't think we're ever going to see that survey or another official response.
