The only things BP has in common with EVE is that it's set in space where you fly ships, that you can change ships and the fits on ships (somewhat), that it has some semblance of a market and that you play it with other peopl (to a certain extent).
They barely even share the same overarching theme (mmo-ish space and Sci-Fi, as opposed to single-player, ground or Fantasy), they're not even the same genre (sandbox vs arcade), let alone consider that they might share the same niche as far as gaming is concerned (they don't).

BP is basically a heavily instanced twitch-based arcade game.
To compare it with EVE directly is ridiculous.

If Black Prophecy is "the EVE killer", then Minesweeper is "the Bomberman killer" or something like that.

Yeah, you're right. Taken from their FAQ:

Is Black Prophecy anything like Eve Online?

Black Prophecy is a Massively Multiplayer Online Space Shooter with role-play elements focussing on fast and exciting real-time combat space battles. Our approach is to provide quick and easy game fun without the necessity to develop your character over months. So besides the fact that both games play in space, they do not have much more in common.

Downloaded the client and I've lost count of how many patches it's installing. This is ridiculous - whatever happened to downloading the most recent build.

The tutorial video took forever telling me a lame story about how genetically enhanced people hate cybernetically enhanced people. Then I got stuck in a turret thingy thinking about how this was supposed to be a fighter game. Knowing that if I logged I would just have to spend 20min watching there Intro Video again. At that point I did not even know which faction I was a part of. The UI was worse then EVE's UI to.

By that time I just re-logged back on to EVE and suddenly...

The Fun was back again!

Well let me answer a few questions.

1) You start turreting for a freighter convoy that gets attacked.

2) You kill a bunch of ships (way too many actually)

3) You get put in a crappy noob ship

4) You go through a bunch of cut scene stuff and lowbie missions

5) You get forced to fight a big semi interesting space battle

6) You get forced to make a faction decision about 1-2 hours later following a bunch of various missions

7) Game then becomes EXCESSIVELY boring and grindy and absolutely nothing like your cut scene starting missions would have you believe..

8) Quit.

This pretty much sums it up.

It's more like earth and beyond, if all the content of earth and beyond was either generic Freelancer missions or a massive gankfest in which a single high level can shut down an entire mission area because he can one shot everyone and take everything they throw at him without showing any visible damage.
