LMAO @ "speed metal". I guess it's 1988 all over again. Lemme break out some DRI since we're talking about "speed metal", heheh.

I've got to agree with this. "Speed Metal" is an ancient term, and the fact that it's now supposedly used for something else entirely leaves me wondering if the author of that article even knows what he's talking about. The article reeks of sensationalism and seems pretty pointless to me.

What's next, "acid rock"? Lol I think you're right; someone using the term "speed metal" today doesn't know anything about the metal genre whatsoever.

I thought likewise when I first saw the article, but then I figured that perhaps the author is simply using the term "Speed Metal" to emphasize the article's point of speed in playing to the laypeople who will be reading it, who don't know or couldn't care less about the miriad subgenres of Metal.

That being said, the term brings fond memories of one of the earliest metal vinyls I ever had, "Speed Kills - The Very Best In Speed Metal"Big smile

(as an aside, I always liked much better the version of Venom's "Black Metal" on that record, than the original album's version)

That is a great compilation!

As an aside, BNR Metal Pages has been one of the best pages dedicated to metal in all its sub genre glory Twisted

EDIT:

I will also point out that the BNR genre list page does not include speed metal as a sub genre Bear

This is true speed-drumming

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.
