What brings you to EvE?

I've been playing EvE on and off for the past 6 years now I believe... or 7. Like many of you, or all of you, PvP made it's home in my heart and I've never looked back since.
My earliest memory of EvE was being blown to bits by Tiller himself from Kleptomaniacs.
My most fond memories from EvE were mission ganking in the Frarn-Rens-Balgania mission hub.
Accomplished pretty much everything I set out to do in the game, so what keeps bringing me back?

I doubt anyone I used to play with plays anymore. Never was much of a people person within this Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game. The irony...

Upon paying the 9.99 reactivation for a month... I don't know what route I want to explore in this game. Sifted through the skill list and I see the options I have are pretty much endless. I'm amazed that even after 7 years, a single player, playing by himself most of the time, Still cannot find all the areas of EvE. Limitless. Can't say I've agreed with everything CCP has done but the one thing they have beautifully done, and continue to do, is make a sandbox. An addicting sandbox. Not going to delve into balance, ISK generation, Risk vs Reward, each to his own, but the sandbox and amount of creativity this game provides for any given player is pretty cool thinking back to my career in this game.
Started out as most with PvE in mind. That advanced to lvl 4 missions. Dipped my toes in lowsec and 0.0 and was terrified. Hand shaking (Oh gotta' love the hand shaking EvE online provides new players, and even veterans, when battling other live humans.)
Joined a highsec pvp corp and was introduced to ninja salvaging as a mean to provide isk. Learned about Suddenly Ninjas.
Joined Faction Warfare, lived in 0.0.
Never traded.
Never played the market.
Never mined.
Never explored.
Never wormholed.
And there are probably a million other nevers as well.

To waste our time, ElQuirko. To waste our time.

In 2007 , I was a Mechwarrior 4 player (and a long time battletech fan) and the game was getting old. A buddy of mine played EVE and knew I was looking for a new game.

I noticed he posted in an EVE thread at a mechwarrior league site i visited (my 1st post in that thread is here) and i asked him about it on teamspeak during a drop (game session). He sent me a link for a free trial and I've been playing ever since. As a battletech fan i found the EVE universe had a lot of similarities, like the "humans only in space/no aliens" theme and the "recovering from a dark age" theme. I was instantly hooked.

During last 2 years it was avatar "gameplay" (I've re-activated account just to get tattoos and cyber arms) + incursions (most fun group gameplay in all MMOs ever).

Now I've discovered alternative space MMO with much more avatar gameplay and farm so I'm just checking forums and re-queueing 20-30 days long skills once in a month. Also there are 3 more MMO space games + 3 more PvP sandboxes to appear so most likely 2013 was my last year in EVE.

edit: note: I've traded, mined, wormholed, played market, courier-ed, manufactured, PI-ed, etc.

When I started, I was a cute little girly with dreadlocks and a shy smile, getting exploited by freaks who only cared about themselves. And now I have epic boobees melting the brains of weak men...

Oh sorry... What was the question again? ;)

always something new to do, or something to do better than the last time you did it. Run with a corp for a few months, run solo a few months, always a way to change up the pace.

SWG got its NGE so I migrated to a game that looked around the same. EVE corrupted me and I was soon collecting skulls for the skull throne.

What brings me to EVE? Good question Shocked

I dunno. I like spaceships, but I think it has more to do with compulsion and addiction more than anything else TBH.

And it isn't just a sandbox. It's a ruthless sandbox. It makes your heart pound. It makes your head spin. It gets your back up and causes your nerves to get shot... assuming you're doing it right.

And above all things, it doesn't hold your hand and walk you through the pretty garden to the pleasant view of the ocean. It kicks you around and laughs at you, which in turn prompts you to laugh at yourself. And then you learn and you get better, and if you play your cards right, the last laugh can be yours.

what brought me to eve...

back at the end of 2003/early 2004 I was playing a game called Earth and Beyond, it was my second dive into mmo's after evecrack. I realized rather quickly that running around kill things with sticks and lvl up games were not for me. EnB announced they were sunsetting, and CCP in a brilliant stroke started trial accounts and offered them to former enb players. I poked around a bit after a guild mate in EnB jumped to eve, and saw that the skill system alone was what I always wanted. I hated grind games, and I figured what the hell i'll try it. So I jumped to eve... I nearly quit in my trial period, as pvp and pve was not working for me and was a bit boring (did not pvp much, mostly pve) one of my buddies who came form EnB goes 'well why don't you try and mine then..' and that was all she wrote. I fell madly inlove with mining, and for my first year that's all I did.

What keeps me here is i'm an addict, I enjoy the people I play with in my corp, and I tend to take on too much responcability so I keep coming on to do stuff. 10 years later, with a single break of a year (my wife had my son) here I am.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

Your avatar reminds me of a girl who gave me a back rub at a rave when I was 21.

I never got her name, but needless to say, she was awesome.
