So I finally upgraded my computer with new parts and migrated from XP to 7. Back on XP I can only play EVE on DX9 and now that I have windows 7 I have the option of playing EVE on DX11. Is it recommended to play EVE on DX11?

Are there any improvements when moving to DX11 over DX9? Because I've heard some bad stuff about it sometimes in the chat channels I frequently visit and some other channels that I not so frequently visit. Nothing in detail when I ask them why they just that DX11 EVE sucks like Worm.

Currently the DX11 and DX9 versions of EVE are visually identical, there aren't any new special effects taking advantage of new DX11 gimmicks, like the tech demo they presented at fanfest couple of years ago.

And currently there is the added caveat that the DX11 mode is a lot more unstable than the DX9 mode. So you should keep running the game in DX9 mode until they get it running more stable or there is some new eye candy for the DX11 version.

The main improvement from moving to DX11 is that you can provide CCP with more usage data and bug reports so they can improve the client and move on to implementing DX11 features sooner and with fewer bugs.

Shut up you. There is no added benefit in running EVE on DX11. It just makes the client freeze up randomly and crash on alt-tabbing. At least that's what it does on my machine.

I have Dx11 running on a windows 7, 64bit box. No issues. I have a rather old Core I7, 940 overclocked to 3.8 GHz with a NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti.

Your experience may vary. I would stay with something more stable based on what others have experienced.

Good luck.

So far it's been a sea of negative reviews regarding DX11 so I'm going back to DX9.

Turn on your launcher but don't log in. On the upper right of the launcher there is a button with a gear inside. Click it. It will open a small window with several tabs. Go to the DirectX tab and pick DX9 and then save. At least I hope that's how you do it.

I believe you may have to do a system restore back to when you were using Dx9.

OR

My system is pretty similar to yours ( i7-2600 running at 3.4 GHz ) but unfortunately, using DX11 causes frequent lock-ups.

Odd really.

I am sure CCP will respond to the issues raised by players and optimize the game so that middle of the range systems like mine run better with DX11

Maybe a little history will help. I had windows 8.1 which was upgraded from windows 7 Home Premium. I upgraded to 8.0 ONLY because it was dirt cheap at the time and I had 24 gig of memory which 7 home premium could not handle (16 gig limit). Had no issues with Eve on Win 8.0 however, I hated 8.0 so much after a year I did a CLEAN install of Windows 7 Ultimate which could handle the memory I had. Clean install of DX11 again, no issues.

Play time is only a couple hours max a day.

who knows?

OP said nobody provided him with reasons why not run Eve with DX11 except general "it just sucks" and in my book that is a sign of stupidity. And if you listen to stupid you are stupid as well.

I switched to DX11 shortly after they fixed first problems that were preventing game from starting and since then I had no troubles with this setting. Maybe it doesn't add anything but it doesn't take anything either so why shouldn't I use it?

Besides WTF is a problem with setting DX11 and testing it by yourself? Why create forum thread asking about it?

Win7 and DX11, no issues.

The AlienFX hook does crash the client for me though...

Not entirely sure what everyone is on about with the stability being worse with DirectX 11.

For me EVE on DX11 has a more stable framerate than with DX9 (less of a dip while jumping and such, locked at 60 otherwise, as I do use V-sync). The jumps feel smoother, because the FPS doesn't drop nearly as much as it did with DX9.

Haven't had any crashes, even with frequent alt-tab activity.

Because some players engage in somethign called PVP, the main focus of the game. and running in an unsatble configuration might result in ACCIDENTS.

NOT ASKING is the dumb thing. THere are no stupid question.. just stupid people answering in forums.

So I guess you are directly connected to server clusters because otherwise any network connection can cause DC and that is not stable config to pvp in. Get real, if you have problems with DX11 you will have them regardless of what elite level of pvp you are doing after undocking. You set it, got crashes, you set it back and fine. I set it and no crashes at all so I didn't set it back. Why OP can't do it too and see for himself?
