What if Phoenixes were actually relevant?

I invite you now to join me on a thought exercise adventure into a hypothetical New Eden, functionally identical to our own, save for one small difference.

In this New New Eden, Phoenixes are no longer the oft-maligned joke they are here, but instead are the most-used dreadnought out there. I know, this is a crazy idea, and it might just be so insane that it bypassed you entirely, so I'll say it again: in this universe, Phoenixes are the best.

Here in our hypothetical universe, Phoenixes dying on hisec gates aren't newsworthy because of the hilarious logic failures that lead to that situation, but are notable because it's rare for anything short of another capital fleet to break a Phoenix's fearsome tank. Slowcat doctrines are discarded in favor of massed Phoenixes; regardless of whether it's a POS, a Titan, or even a subcap fleet just begging to be blapped, nothing can stand in the way of the mighty Phoenix.

Okay. Now take yourself back to real Eve, where things make sense and Phoenixes are still the terrible lovechild of bad balancing and niche combat ships. What do you think Eve would be like when tiericide hits the Capitals?

There's not really anything you can do to make capital missiles that relevant. It's not like you can ignore flight time or missile vulnerability.

I'll take "missiles are a ***** to balance" for 800. Truth be told, the biggest hurdle was taken when shield didn't just only get max shield amount from leadership but also total shield amount. Now they just need to implement shield Slaves and we're halfway there.

A properly fit PvP phoenix is just as good as others, particularly in small-scale capital engagements in wormhole space.

We once had a PvP phoenix with a small support fleet wipe out a 4-carrier / 1 moros battlegroup, all on a 3billion mass budget.

dont forget, torpedoes are deadly on a phoenix up close, and damage type is selectable. back it up with A-type invulns, and youre golden.

In a pulsar, they are absulute murder.

buff the damage slightly, the explosion velocity by a lot, reduce their sig radius, & they might actually do some extreme damage numbers on moving ships.

it should be THE dreadnaught of choice, well, a fleet of them at least, for taking out motherships

Now with 400 second reload time and a half sized clip compared to normal launchers. But wait CCP increased the RoF and DPS by a bit so it's all good!

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

Fit light missiles on your Phoenix and maybe they'll be useful for something or another.

There's no need for shield slaves. Shield supercaps already have more tank than their armor equivalents do when they're fitted with slaves (using Pith A-Type Invulns).

The Leviathan actually has the best tank out of all the titans, and the Ragnarok is excellent at drive-by-doomsdays since you can use an LG Nomad set to help you GTFO afterwards.

No thanks. Last time I did that someone touched me in my no no place and I cried for days and days and needed therapy for 4 years.

bad thread title. Making something relevant is not the same as making them the best.

I don't know why there is this desire to take a ship from nerfed, to needs-to-be-nerfed. Because we know what is going to happen right after right?

Replace the capital missile skills with capital hybrid, change phoenixes to another rail platform but shield tanked, nbd.
