Wholesale Trading - New Mailing List

In light of the recent announcement of the monetisation of the Bulk Trade mailing list, a new list will be required for those of us who do not wish to pay to access a list. This list is a simplified version of the existing list which I hope can be a good platform to transition from one to the other. While the list is still gathering momentum, I would advise to post on both the old list and this one until the bulk of the market has transition across.

You can help it build momentum by advertising this to your friends, corps, alliances and customers. The idea is to have a large, free and fair list so you can continue to make good trades every day. The only way to build a new list at such short notice is to get as big a base of customer as traders as possible, as quickly as possible, and with your help we can do just that.

I am also running a chat channel Wholesale Trading. Feel free to join that too. It will be moderated along with the mailing list.

What is this?
This is a mailing list to trade in larger volumes of goods. It's designed as a replacement to the defunct "Bulk Trade" list. The rules are slightly simpler, but the structure and use will be similar.
Any questions, comments or problems can be mailed to Shira Dian.

If you need support, or want a place to discuss trades, best practices, run auctions or just hang out for a friendly chat, you can use the Wholesale Trading chat channel which is run alongside this mailing list.

Rules
This is not an exhaustive list. For the most part the rules are simply this: Use common sense, keep the list clear of clutter and don't try to negatively impact the list or any of it's users.

  1. Only items are to be traded here. This is not for services and not for auctions.

  2. Only bulk trades are allowed. I'll not set specific limits for most items but 5+ for most things and 50k+ for ammo/minerals/etc. will be a good guideline.

  3. Your email titles must contain WTB/WTS, and the name (or group name) of the items being sold. Where possible the quantity should also be given. Either the subject or body of the mail should contain the location.

  4. Spamming will not be tolerated. While no hard limits will be placed on mails sent, please try to keep it reasonable. If you have multiple items to sell, send one mail for all of them rather than one for each. If you often send too many and could easily avoid it, you will be asked to reduce how many you send. Off-topic spamming will result in a ban. Purposely mass spamming the list will result in a permanent ban and a report to CCP for a ToS section 1 violation.

  5. Scamming will not be tolerated at all. Any attempts to use this list to scam will result in a permanent ban, with no prior warnings.

  6. Do not set a high CSPA charge (>50k). If you are found to have a high CSPA charge, you will receive a warning to change this before your next group mail.

  7. Once completed, you should forward your email back in adding "SOLD" or "COMPLETE" or something to that effect to the beginning of your title.

Punishment
All of these rules will be enforced, though the response will vary by severity of the breach and the intent of the offender. For most of the rules, a warning will be issued first giving you a chance to correct whatever breach has occurred. Warnings will last for 12 months. Further breaches with warnings on file will result in a 7 day ban, followed by a 30 day ban, then a permanent ban. Individual circumstances can skip some or all of these steps. Intentional breaches of the rules which detriment other users will result in more severe punishment. Punishment lengths can be varied as I feel is appropriate.

The aim of these rules is to be flexible enough to allow everyone freedom to trade, but strict enough to keep the list clean and functioning well. Warnings and bans will be mailed to the offender stating the reason, length and actions to take (if any). At no point will I accept any isk to restore access to the list. The best way to reduce bans is to simply obey the rules.

There is no charge for the use of this list, however donations are always appreciated.

Thanks for the support, I'll do my best to run the service and efficiently as possible to keep you guys trading once Bulk Trade drops.

Just added to the OP the addition of the chat channel Wholesale Trading. Feel free to join that too. It will be moderated along with the mailing list.

it would be in your own interest to make the rules more strict and more precise. it will save you a lot of pain in the long run. also, you should make it clear that the rules will not be enforced 100% to save some more trouble dealing with whiny clients ('but six months ago that one guy did the same thing i did and he was not banned!').

I should buy an Ishtar.

I'll definitely be considering this. My first goal is to get people in an using the list more. There's been a few mails go through already which is good, but more is always better.

The rule structure will be much the same as the existing list (so pretty much if it was fine in the old system, it's fine here), though there will be revisions. Bans will obviously vary by severity of breach, but I'm already working out guidelines. The bonus this has over the old list is that I have no benefit to banning people. I don't gain from it, so there would be no reason for the seemingly random bans that used to be an issue. At the moment, having not been involved in the previous list, I need to gauge a better understanding of the type of edge-cases we will get.

And yeah, bans won't be dished out for 100% of cases. In reality I'd like people to be able to control themselves and have to ban noone, that would be pretty amazing, but is unlikely to happen. The key is though if it's understandable as an honest mistake, a first time offense, and of low severity there is likely to be more flexibility that the old list. I've built a internal app which I'll be using to monitor bans and warnings so it's not going to be too ad-hoc.

Overall though, the system is going to be as fair, flexible and transparent as possible. I'll happily take on board all advice, ideas and complaints from the users, either here, by evemail or though the channel, and aim to build a robust systems which everyone can use and benefit from.

Indeed, it seems to be going quite well. Membership numbers are ticking away steadily and we've seen a few trades going through already. Still got a bit of work to do yet, and hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance to buff out the structure a little, but so far a very positive experience.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

Well, moving to a charged model and out of the mailing list system. So effectively closed.

Hey all, thanks again for the ongoing support. As some of you may already there is some resistance from parts of the community official and unofficial (and that's as much as we can say about the matter) but in spite of that we're still steadily growing and seem to be trading quite well. Most of that is because of you guys buying and selling, so thank you for helping build the fair, free and transparent system.

For those who are wondering, we are currently pushing 198 members of the list and that number is increasing day by day. We've had 63 trading posts go though since the list was created 7 days ago (that's around 33% more than the existing bulk trade list), so it's all very promising.
