Why Certain Aspects of Eve are boring.

This video shows(copied from youtube):

Quote:
"Robert Sapolsky, professor of biology and neurology at Stanford University, compares dopamine levels in monkeys and humans. Sapolsky argues that in both, "Dopamine is not about pleasure, it's about the anticipation of pleasure. It's about the pursuit of happiness." Unlike monkeys however, humans "keep those dopamine levels up for decades and decades waiting for the reward."

You can apply this to all parts of EVE. For example missioning, incursions and mining are very boring you know what your reward is going to be whilst you are doing it. There are no chance based rewards, you do the mission you know what is going to happen. This makes them inherently boring.

Add a chance to have a bad result or have a good result and you find yourself playing the "just one more time is going to be lucky scenario" in your head

Take for example games like world of warcraft (pardon my language) , diablo and more recently skyrim are so addictive for many people because of the chance based drop system. This why I enjoying doing complexes, there is a random reward with chance of getting something rubbish or something amazing.

Changing up your reward system will make most tasks inherently more fun with very little modification!

Faction mods used to drop in missions and LP shop used to be random mod reward offering per mission. Then CCP nerfed missioning into the ground.Lol

/me wonders whether I should comment on reward schemas, reinforcement mechanisms, and dopaminergic pathways. It's all kinda close to my ... erm ... heart.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

the type of a misison offered is already chance based, while many missions are much worse than the others. for example worlds collide is a very good mission and there is a faction drop chance there.

they should add small chance of faction drop in anti faction missions - would make them much more fun and ppl would run them more even while ruining their standings. at the same time, isk faucet would be reduced since all those missions don't have bounties.

The chance there is soooooo freaking SMAAALL that I gave up hoping for it. MONTHS of missions during which I was lucky and had that mission pop from my agents quite a lot and there were 0 dropped FACTION mods. Having a chance soooooo small is like you don't have it at all if you ask me, and I would say more agree with me.

Why not just go do exploration instead of missions?
5 Senses In A Person... 4 Seasons In A Year... 3 Colors In A Stoplight... 2 Poles On The Earth... ONLY 1-UP MUSHROOM!!!  If You Like My Sig, Like Me!   Remember EVE is EVErything!

I´m agree, PvE would be better with some minor changes.

Nice thread Strata.

The chance that you did your homework on how that works is soooooooo freaking SMAAALL that I doubt you ever do homework or get good marks. The chance of you doing your research is soooooooo small its like you never would do your homework at all if you ask me, I would say more agree with me.
