Support Battleship

Hi, I'm a relatively new player and I would like some input on my future as a support role. I started playing about a month ago when my friends kept complaining that they needed a support guy. I've been running the Augoror for a while, doing lots of armor repair and cap transfer, but I find as my friends do more and more difficult missions (Just getting into level 4), I'm becoming more and more useless. With a battlecruiser or a battleship I can have more cap and fit bigger modules, but I don't really see a clear support one like the Augoror was for cruiser. Anyone have any advice on what ships to get up or what setups to use.

Levels: (http://eveboard.com/pilot/Samantha_Siebel)
I know my levels aren't that impressive, I've just been playing around so far. I got a month before break ends and I'd like to be moving in the right direction by then. By the way, money isn't too much of a problem. I sold the plex my friend got for my signing up so I have 550,000,000 left. Any advice for a support with no clue what he's doing, trying to move up in the world?

Almost all EVE PVE can be cheesed by having more dps, all level 4s can be soloed etc.

I can easily fit 4 damage mods to a dominix (taking it to over 1000 dps), and then that kills stuff fast enough that a 3 slot tank supported by a couple of rigs and a cap booster will tank the whole mission.

In PVP, new players can always find a role tackling, and for some types of engagements, logi is far more useful than it is in PVE.

The progression is T2 logistics and then carriers.

The best support battleships at the moment are probably scorpion (jamming) and armageddon (neuts), and the armageddon is a droneboat, so its training is not particularly off-path if you wanted to wind up in carriers.

Theres no need for a support battelship when playing missions, whit your skilltree i would go for a beam harbinger to help your battleship friends whit the small pesky stuff flying around them, start shoot the frigates(web scrambling) first then start move on up. Dont start triggers as the tank whit your skills wont hold. Give your friends gunnery support instead of armor/cap as you really need an Guardian, Oneiros och a Dominix for it.

Try this setup for a low sp harbinger

Medium 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer I
Damage Control II
3x Mission specific mission hardeners
Heat Sink II

10MN Afterburner I
Cap Recharger II
Tracking Computer I, Optimal Range Script
Tracking Computer I, Tracking Speed Script

Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Multifrequency M
Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Multifrequency M
Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Multifrequency M
Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Multifrequency M
Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Multifrequency M
Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Multifrequency M
[empty high slot]

Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

Hobgoblin II x5
Warrior II x5
Light Armor Maintenance Bot I x5

Either go beams and stay on range or pulse when your armor skills are better, the faster you can gun down npc's the less you have to tank!

Sounds like your friends doesn't want to be responsible for tanking their own ships.

If PvE: You can always use a Dominix with highslots dedicated to mostly remote repairers & cap, but adding more damage will remove enemies quicker and make everyone have to tank less overall. Managing triggers in missions is better than just shooting everything and getting thrice the damage incoming that you'd actually have to tank.

If PvP: Ewar ships are often more useful as they allow you to control the situation better and if they can't properly engage you back you don't need to repair your friends.

This advice is the best you'll get. Since you train cruiser V for logistics, you can fly a pilgrim or curse quite fast, too. So to recap:

Droneboats:
• arbitrator
• armageddon

Logistics:
• augoror
• guardian

Neutralizing:
• armageddon

And finally, you can aim for the Archon carrier which require all three roles above.

BUT adding Gallente cruiser V would give you Oneiros, Vexor, Ishtar, Stratios, Exequror... I would consider this the alternative to carrier, if you are looking to stick to the support and drones skillset.

Looks like your rushing into bigger ships and you don't have the support skills to fly them properly. I would fly a cruiser maybe a BC tops and go on anti-frig and cruiser detail, than BC's once those are mopped up and than help on the BS's.

Frigs are the ones that do scrams/webs which will make you guys stick around and get you killed by not allowing you to move or warp out. Cruisers are slightly harder to hit with BS sized weapons so leave that up to you, let your friends focus on the big targets BS/BC, you can help them out when your done. Let them tank their own ships and make them draw aggro your not going to be able to hold your own tank with your skills.

As I said before it loooks like you rushed into ships larger than you should, so you can't even fly them half ass. Bigger ship does not mean better, their for different roles. I'd rather have a toon with 5mil SP specializing in 1 frigate than one that rushed to BS. The frigate toon will just perform significantly better even if the BS pilot puts out more paper dps it doesn't mean it's effective.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

Rattlesnake makes a nice support BS and allows you to do some damage, assign your drones to a fleet mate. Does mean your fleet should stay close. Passive fit it.

The Oneiros and Guardian are the T2 armour logi, the best logi ships until you get into capitals (which is waaaaaaaay away).

scorpion, dominix, typhoon, and geddon are all excellent in the "support battleship" role.

Basically, you follow the other battleship yourself, feeding it reps and capacitor, while also boosting its sensors, tracking, or giving it remote ECCM. You can get additional reps with drones, or use them for dps. Because you're not relying for max dps from these ships, they work well with lower sp players, and can be easily tanked themselves.

wait for Rubicon 1.1, the new Nestor Battleship has bonus for logistics, but i think its only an armor repping logi......and it will be very expensive also

Agreed, the Nestor will be a very good "support BS" with its selectable damage types and logistics bonus. However for the price you are probably better off bringing a gank fit pirate BS or several dominix's.

Wow all this talk of faction battleships and T2 logistics but he is just starting. Don't set him up for failure having him PLEX something this is going to go pop in a mission Sad

To the OP:
You have a lot of time to figure out what you want to do. Train your core skills now. Armor tanking, Capacitor, etc

Download Evemon and make a skill plan. Hold off on remapping your attributes for now though till you are really really sure!

Consider the Dominix as a starter battleship if you like drones. Even with T1 sentry drones it'll work okay and you'll add DPS to the field. A good rule of thumb is don't fly a battleship till you can fit a T2 tank on it so don't rush into it.

Also buy some +3 learning implants. You're training will go much faster.

Gila.

Cheap for pirate faction.
Carry DPS, EW, Repair drones. (( 900+ DPS possible ))
They kick ass both in PVE and L4 missions as a support ship.

If you must go BS make sure it's a drone boat.
