Hey gents,

I was told that a sneaky, but extremely useful tactic, is to have a Neutral alt that flys in fleet with you providing bonuses, I am curious to know though, what ship is the best at providing bonuses and what useful bits of information should be known about this tactic?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Command ships
Orca (mainly for mining though)
Battlecruiser
T3 cruiser

Useful information:

Off grid boosting (OGB) got a slight nerf lately in that it can't be done anymore from the inside of a POS shield (with the exceptions of mining boosts).

Other then that, park the booster somewhere in a safe spot and fit for very very very low signature so that probing it out is harder. Turn on boosts...done.

Keep in mind that, per CCP Fozzie, off-grid boosting will likely be removed at some point in the future, at which point the boosting ship will need to be with your combat ship... so, having a leadership alt will probably lose a lot of its utility at some point in the future

That said - The leadership skill tree provides bonuses to fleets with a proper hierarchy. There can be one booster at the squad level, one booster at the wing level, and one booster at the fleet level. For this to work, a squad commander/wing commander/fleet commander with the appropriate squad/wing/fleet command skills are needed. The upper levels aren't necessary; you can have squad-level boosts without a wing commander but cannot have wing-level boosts without a squad commander. By default, the squad/wing/fleet commander is the character providing the boosts...but it does not have to be this way. Other characters can be designated the squad/wing/fleet "Booster"...So one character will provide the squad commander link for the squad, and the other character's skills/links will provide the actual bonuses

The ships that J'Poll mentioned are the ones that can fit warfare links - These enhance the bonuses from leadership skills substantially, and these are usually what people are talking about when they talk about boosting. After you have the fleet set up like above, you pretty much just turn on the links on the boosting ship and enjoy.

Also, FYI to avoid confusion in the future: "neut" generally refers to energy neutralizers. Leadership bonuses and warfare links are generally referred to as boosts/boosting, links, or OGB (off-grid boosts)

Question on this point, if the booster was in fleet, and providing bonuses, but not engaging with weapons, drones, or remote HP reps, would the booster still flag as hostile to war targets, agressed individuals, etc?

That really depends.

Are combat flags being passed on like they do now with neutral logi, then yes...boosting alts will become little bit less useful.

If combat flags aren't carried over, high-sec will still see use of neutral boosts, as you can't attack the booster even if they are on grid with you if they don't have the flag.

Currently. No, it doesn't inherit any flagging from the fighting and this is "safe"

Excellent, now what would be the best ship to do this with? What provides the biggest bonuses? a Commandship? or a specific fit of Tech 3?
