Some will think this is stupid.

I would prefer to think of it as overdue, and despite searching on the forums, I couldn't find an open thread on the topic, so here is my "Christmas Wish" for the new year.

After playing for a couple of years, and bouncing around skills and PI alts and the like, I would -really- like to see a quit to character selection option without having to return through the login screen. The launcher account login has made it easier to multi-box accounts, but it would be really nice to not have to kill the instance of the client and log back in to swap to a secondary alt.

I found this to be particularly annoying recently while implementing dual-training on a single account. While this is an excellent option to implement for training support characters, it would be facilitated by the ability to easily swap to character select.

The elements are already in place, all that is missing is a button on the options window next to Quit Game. .. .. Please ?

Its not stupid. Its a really basic function that is conspicuous by its absence. Just one of those things that really should be there. The fact it isn't, is stupid.

That idea has been suggested many times. Here is a fairly recent dev post on the matter: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3861255#post3861255

It's relegated to the "this sounds really simple to implement but we have to solve the traveling salesman problem in polynomial time first" list.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

I'd be happy with a bonus remap.

As I understand it, it's a problem with the most basic underpinnings of the client that manifests as a hard restriction of "you can only choose one character per launch of the game". Of course, I don't work at CCP, but from reactions and details dropped over the years of people asking for this, that's what I've put together.

Rest assured, CCP are aware that people want this, and they want it as well. It just hasn't been feasible/efficient to do it yet.

That sums it up quite well. It's been wanted and talked about for a loooong time now. If it was an easy thing to do, it would have been done years ago.

Thank you all for the references to previous discussions on this topic, they have been informative.

I can see where in the past, yes, client "underpinnings" may have impeded this type of option, but the character selection screen implies a clean launch with only account related ties until one selects the avatar played. A return to this state would simply be a kill switch with a client refresh, while retaining account info. Where this has been shelved or dismissed in the past because of the previous client restrictions, a lot of more difficult and complex code changes have been introduced since then.

Perhaps a DEV could comment as to the possibilities within the framework of the current state of the game?

.. LoL, a stupid moment as I find my own answer ..

re; returning to login-screen.

This has been a personal pet-peeve of mine for quite many years. I have suggested on a few occasions to change this, however this requires some changes to how the server/client communication happens and that is some major work that takes a lot of time and effort to do.

So as much as I wanted (and many more) to make this happen it just did wasn't suitable, but you never know if that will change!

.. And then yet another as I realize a problem with my own argument that assumes the player hasn't changed the account information on the launcher and started a different session alongside the one where the character select would take place.

More coffee.

A little bird mentioned to me that the launcher is being looked at, from a multiboxers perspective.

Nothing official, no timescales, but there are people at CCP who are wanting it to be better for that.

Woo! CSM XI!
