Dragoon seem like a really beefy, competent ship for PVP (which I suck balls at :D), at least from my (newbie's) point of view. I'd like to know what are your (veterans and experienced pvp'ers) opinions of this ship, is it worth it bringing my Mastery to higher levels for this ship?

Thanks :)

It's a decent ship but with my set up it was delegated to high sec, dueling at 0m, af killing. I've worked out a fit that could work better in situations where speed is a must, but I haven't been able to try it out

I enjoy it, It can handle any frig as any dessie should. Its nuets, drones, and beefy tank make it a good all around boat with few weaknesses.

With warriors you can easily catch fast frigs so you really don't have to worry about being kited with the exception of some intys, and its tank and nuets do fairly well in most brawls.

Its big disadvantage is catching and holding your targets in engagements due to its slow speed. The lack of a third mid-slot really hurts it since you cant fit a web after your prop mod and scram. You have to hope that people will engage and underestimate you. Overall though its a solid boat and a lot of fun to fly in FW.

What you are considering is getting a high mastery level for Dragoon.

This includes: capacitor warfare, drones and core skills. These skillsets are omnipresent so you cannot go wrong there. It also includes destroyer V. This leads naturally to interdictors which are one of the most sought after ship types in pvp.

In order to properly balance the question "should I train this Dragoon mastery as a priority over other ships" you should IMHO think about if you want to later on become an interdictor pilot, armageddon pilot, prophecy pilot (if yes, then there is no reason not to train dragoon up).

I forgot that ship even existed, haven't seen one in space since their introduction.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

nuets+drones+missles+kiting.

fit it with a scram and try not to let anyone get close. It would really shine with the third mid to fit a web but if you cycle your nuets properly you should be able to hold range.

I recently killed a dragoon in my jaguar. My JAGUAR. Thats how bad it is. Destroyers are meant to take on AF's, and one of the weakest destroyed a dragoon. Dont dragoon unless you know what you are doing. The sentinel does something similar, but is harder to kill. Skill toward that instead if you like the idea.

One example means little, I've killed one of the best afs (hawks)with my dragoon.

Capless guns - check
Natural resistance vs. the strongest damage type of Dragoon (therm) - check
Falloff to keep applying damage at web kite ranges - check

A Jaguar should roflstomp a Dragoon, prehaps even if the Dragoon is sporting warrior II's.

In my opinion it is not a mainstream ship and therefore, if you learn to PvP in Dragoons, you will miss out on some PvP basics that would be good to learn early on.

As a solo ship it can be really good if flown well, but it's not that easy to do so. It mostly shines in small tanky destroyer gangs that are looking for larger ships to kill. Logistic frigs as support are useful (mandatory) in that situation.
