It looks cool but it also looks more irritating, as I'm not really sure what parts of it are supposed to be clickable. The buttons were much less obvious.

I think the speed is @ 0430 o'clock and shows 230m/s in the linked image... if I read the blurry image correctly :D

I do wonder how one would go about setting speed though...

I basically like the idea, but this iteration is a tad bloated i agree on that. I doubt we will see this ingame...it is probably just one of many ideas.

And why does the Manticore look like a Corax in space?

The notion that anyone could possibly be 100% against a GUI when they have no idea what options are available (such as transparency, etc) is just mind boggling.

It is a static image.

You can't possibly be totally "for" or "against" a static image of a GUI. You have no clue what settings would be available, nor what customization exists or is planned.

Emitting false rage is not a forum sport.

and there is no statement or explanation fo what features WILL eb available.

so if it is judged, it will be judged by what is THERE, make sense?

also, if NO ONE complained about ANYTHING, then this "first proto" would eb the FINAL proto, and a UI with NO options or functionality WOULD be introduced, upon much griping, complaining, and unsubbing would ensue.

we SAVE CCP dev hours by complaining, because if we didnt complain, they woudlnt know what to do anymore

You must be new to the Internet. Its NEVER too early to hate on something, or someone, you've never actually seen!

Desperately needs transparency. I like the removal of the left hand side bar though. As for the corax/manticore/artillery thing, it looks like this is supposed to be a design mockup, not an ingame screen shot. I mean he's autopiloting on grid with hostile players. The selected item view is cool, but I'm worried that its going to be too big for smaller monitors. This view doesn't seem to account for how much information the overview needs to give.

I also like the addition of the ship class on the selected item window. This will be a great help to newer players that might know what ship types do, but not all the ship names of specific types. One of my early losses was because I thought a retribution was an interceptor, and assumed that it wouldn't be able to tank the damage from our ships.

Not impressed by it.

That said I wouldn't mind if they implemented modding support for the UI, LUA perhaps.

My biggest gripe is the lack of several hotkeys. And I'd definitely like a smoother drone interface. But I guess the lack of certain hotkeys is to make it harder on botters, just annoying that I have to suffer because of it.

Oh dear Eris please just kill this before it happens.

Can we just get a solid, clear and functional UI without fnuh and illuminated fnord useless bling.

First you make things work, then you add bling, but only as long as it doesn't interfere with functionality.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

An even better question is - why does that Tempest (?) have a Kestrel's (where does it say it's a Manticore) image?

Game interfacing and input design.

This might help you understand why most people are against what they saw with that UI.

That mockup is not an intended final product. They already said that when presenting it. That's why it is called a mockup. It isn't even close to a functional product.

It wasn't even created by someone who develops the UI. It was created by someone in the art department when asked to make some mockups for visual styles.

It was created to show how the 'blue transparent' style might look in a finished product. It was created to show color and shape schemes, to show how a certain visual style might look when the entire UI is using it. There are more images like that with different color and shape schemes. Within the same set of slides, CCP also showed different early mockups of the radial menu using different shapes for the buttons.

It is NOT designed to show the end result layout. It is NOT designed to show the end result functionality. It is ONLY designed to show the end result visual scheme.

Nothing in that picture (except the radial menu) has gone through the rigorous design, testing, and Q/A phases necessary for something to hit TQ.

The entire purpose of that image along with its siblings was for CCP to decide which visual style they liked best and in which direction to take the general aesthetics of EVE's user interface. This is the one they decided on, and so future developments of the UI will resemble this image in style.

TL;DR

Both the haters and the lovers are correct. You'll get something that looks like this, but you won't get something that's as confusing and impractical as this.

... well, we can hope.
