Any players here, is it worth playing? What is there to do in it?

This is a serious thread btw.

There is a very slim chance that this is a serious thread btw.

If you are not collecting T2 & navy modules in your weekly autopilot raid, you will be dancing on top of mailboxes while begging for ISK unless you are busy cyboring in Silvermoon City among bloody elves.

Though I have not played it in ages so who knows, I'd assume not many changes there, but then again assumptions are the first step on a path to ruin.

But really, go watch some videos and read the internets about it if there's any chance you are actually being serious about this? :) It's a very straightforward and quite simple game, propably not very interesting on a long run if you are looking for a lot of variety from your mmorpg like EvE provides.

I didn't like it at all. The bad graphics I can get away with but the gameplay really is go to the forest and kill boars and the lack of any risk just saps the fun out of it.

EVE has ruined me.

you want risk, balz?

make an alliance toon on a pvp realm that is 90% or so horde. lol. that plus that whole crossrealm zones thing they have going now will make anyone throw their keyboard across the room trying to level.

There is a difference between difficulty created by a solid game design and difficulty created by humans that like to fight with the odds. Albeit, EvE has the later, but it also has solid and deep game design. WoW only has the later. So trying to level in a realm you describe is nothing short of insanity.

I loved Wow back in '05. It was my first experience with online games period. I grew tired of it within a year. Unfortunately I did not find EvE until the summer of '07.

EDIT: I remember jumping off the top of Thunder Bluff the first time and I got this massive feeling of my throat dropping into my stomach and then those two dropping into my gut. It was one of the most amazing feelings I have ever experienced and the fact that I got that while sitting still in a chair watching a computer screen just blew my mind.

i played it for a few years. started back when burning crusade was in its twilight and everyone was expecting wrath in a few months. still have friends that play. they occasionally try beg and cajole me to come back. I was a pretty good resto druid and hunter.

it wasn't my first mmo. i'd actually started with the original guild wars some time before. I had an after school job and I saved up to get my first computer. it was awesome lol

I rolled a blood elf paladin. Missioned to level 5, now have to pick professions. Which is the best?

much like eve in this regard, you do what you want when it comes to professions. if you want money, choose gathering professions and sell what you harvest. or if you like crafting choose those. or, if you want to be useful to yourself as you level, choose professions that would aid you. you said you are a paladin. mining and from what you mine...blacksmithing...would let you make your own equipment as you level up.

personally, I always went with gathering professions while leveling. for the money. then when I got to max level I changed them to useful things for my characters like enchanting and jewelcrafting. of course, over my tenure in that game I had pretty much maxed a toon for every profession. my characters ending up sort of feeding off each other skills.

About your class choice, Paladin is very universal class, can be: tank, DPS or healer. Paladins buffs are always needed in raids. Good choice.

Alchemy and Herbalism, as professions. Once you will get flying mount, picking up herbs is easy.
With Alchemy you can make you self and friends (guild) potions and battle elixirs, always needed during raids.
And for making some gold with Alchemy is also good, same potions or elixirs, transmuting.

Trinkets, called Alchemist stones (as I remember, haven't been playing WoW for 2 years)

Currently WoW is on sale for 5 $, the bang per buck is impressive.

I'm still blocking spoof account support emails by the night elf mohawk assassins guild from my old account, why would I want to draw more attention from such ruthless assassins? I already keep my closet locked and a shotgun at the ready by my bedroom door just in case. Is 5 $ really worth your life?!? The risk is too great...

I used to like WoW but then WotLK came out, and it was all downhill fromt here.

Actually WoW has been making a steep descent from its proud beginnings as an elitist grind MMORPG to a free-for-all, everything-is-easy cartoon happyland. They've dumbed it down so far now that I'm at a loss for ideas to imagine how they could go further. But they never cease to amaze me.

Vanilla WoW was a tough grind because nothing ever dropped and your characters spent 80% of the fight waiting on mana and doing autoattacks.

Burning Crusade was accessible to everyone but still had difficult content, and enough cooldown spells and mana regen to keep you doing stuff at all times if you knew how to play your class.

WotLK gave even more spells and cooldowns so you could very nearly mash your face on your keyboard and play well. There was still difficult content but they also made easy versions of raids so that really bad players could believe they were at the top of their game.

Cataclysm redid the graphics (which was great BTW) and removed all of the character customization by making each talent tree 10% larger than the total number of talent points you got, so that it was impossible to make a bad build. There are rumors that the content was made more difficult but the truth is that all of the attributes were replaced with stamina (hit points) which made gaming less of a tactical funfest and more into a lets-see-who-dies-the-slowest as mana gradually drained and you weren't really sure if yours would run out before the boss died. This fake difficulty made raids frustrating, but not actually difficult.

Mists of Pandaria actually removed the talent tree and replaced it with a button you click once to choose your specialization. I'm not kidding! This is actually true! They also added a class that does everything that every other class did and better. The Monk is basically a Paladin/Death Knight hybrid on steroids, and is the epitome of their new unspoken motto which is that there is a right class, a right spell, and everything should be simple so that people with severe brain damage should be able to play just as well as elite metagamers.

I'm still hoping for a Blizzard-run Vanilla/BC/Wrath server but I'm not holding my breath.

P.S.: I'm not ashamed to say I loved what WoW used to be.

It was jewelcrafting when I played, and I have a hunch that hasn't changed. I could very easily be wrong though. Jewelcrafting was the best because it was the hardest. If it's not hard it won't be the best I think, but I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to prove me wrong there.

World of Warcraft is rather addiction.

However, I don't like it.

Once you are max level you have to do all your dailies and weeklies or otherwise you feel like you are wasting your sub money.

Personally I don't like being forced to play every day so I don't like it.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

I played from 2005-2008 as an end-game raider, the game got worse and worse over time as Blizzard started pandering to "casuals" and screwing over the hardcore playerbase, so I left before it got any worse.

All I hope is that Eve doesn't follow the same path.

The 'fashion show' game model is pretty old and busted now. Striving to get new clothes and accessories as the only way of advancement. But for a brief time WoW was awesome. Anyone who doesn't admit that is lying. It singlehandedly blew the MMO scene wide open. Now it's dying a slow death. With population dwindling more each month. I don't think it will ever recover totally, even if it goes free to play. But it lasted much longer than i would have expected.
