Thinking about getting into hisec pvp, fit suggestions...

So I want to get into pvp a bit more and get away from the 'Target Slowly' 'Press Missiles from 70K away' and hope someone holds on to them.

I was thinking about a more in the face approach for a drake.

How do you guys think this would work? Strengths? Weaknesses? Just no?

Heavy Assault Launcher II x 7 (Kinetic Assaults)
Small Nos II

Sensor Booster II (Scan Resolution Script)
Invul Field x2
Warp Disruptor or Scrambler II
10MN MWD II
Large Shield Extender II

Damage Control II
Ballistic System II x2
Power Diag Sys II (Fitting purposes, extra other stuff)

Core Defense Extender x3

Hobgobs II x5

I can only fly Caldari and I figured Drakes are affordable to play around in. Will the above be handy enough for solo and fleet use?

Suggestions welcomed

Get rid of the damage control and put another Ballistic System. Also, get rid of the SB unless you scan res completely sucks and put another large extender on. Everything else looks fine more or less for a buffered drake.

May i suggest you looking into an active drake or alternative active tanked ship if you're doing small/solo highsec pvp.

I would definitely lose the SeBo. DC is personal preference. Nothing wrong with having it, but usually it's considered overkill on the tank. You should also slap some rigs on it. At least some EM shield rigs to plug your EM resistance hole. They're cheap.

Another LSE 2 instead of that SeBo is a good suggestion, if you can fit it. Or maybe go with missile rigs and put an EM amplifier there if you can't.

Also consider dropping 1-2 HAMs for HM Launcher. (minor dps decrease) That will get you enough PG and allows you to drop the PDS for 3rd BCU or DC.

The Drake (being Caldari) is not especially fast in a line nor is it particularly agile. While HAM brawling is certainly fun, you have a more limited engagement range than the HML variant would allow and will be forced into up-close scenarios when you can actually make an engagement.

YMMV, but I'd have the y-t8 mwd (vastly cheaper, same speed increase, easier fitting, 2% less maximum cap compared to the t2) a 2pt warp scrambler, 1 X5 stasis web, photon scattering field, invulnerability field, and large shield extender. This plugs the EM resist hole and still allows a fairly balanced buffer while featuring full tackle.

The 'Squire' PG4 implant for slot 6 boosts powergrid by 3% for a reasonable price, and should allow you to fit a full rack of HAMs while using 1 damage control and 3 ballistic controls in the lows. Would also change the small nos you have to a small neut for any close-range frigates. A small nos provides a vanishingly small amount of capacitor for you and has very little effect on the enemy. Rigs are fine with CDFEs.

Would suggest at least considering using a flight of light ECM drones in the bay instead of hobs or warriors. While each drone has a fairly small chance of jamming, I personally prefer to take a swiss-knife approach than one-trick dps dealer. Using light combats is not a bad decision, though.

You should bring along missile ammunition in both faction and t2 variants. Faction for anything cruiser-sized and below, rage for anything your size or larger, and javelin for anything that attempts to kite you.

It's a perfectly valid idea. 6 HAM's + 1 HML + 3 BCU's gets you more DPS than 7 HAMs + 2 BCU's.

Just because of the battleclinic stereotype that "MIXING ANY KIND OF WEAPON WITH ANY OTHER KIND OF WEAPON IS BAD" doesn't mean you should blindly follow it.

If your going for close range that MWD will be just about useless.

Why not drop it and plug your em hole.

Then you won't need the PG which you can then replace with a Suitcase.

It will have ******** EHP and a good enough recharge rate to irk people.
