How messy, and depending on where you live a little awkward. I would first consider a sack and a couple of bricks. However upon consideration I would call in professionals, I know pets can be an emotional thing but for a the appropriate amount of cash the problem just disappears. Just be sure to use people with a good reputation and not fly-by-nights with a good line of bluff.
