Live Event Timing: Why so Vague?

With the live events, there's often little warning, or very vague "sometime in the next couple days" type of statement. Would it really be that game-breaking to announce exactly when and where they were going to occur? Especially the highsec ones, where you don't have to worry about someone organizing a hot-drop. I'm sure that if people could plan ahead, they would be able to rearrange their schedule, get themselves ready to go, and be more able to participate in the fun. Sure, it may be a slight stretch from a role-play perspective, but as many players don't have time to watch intel channels for hours on end, it seems this would result in a dramatic increase in availability for the casual players.

well, while a little more info might be ok, if you can't get anyone online in a 24hr event window, advance notice probably won't help that much

The heavy fleet has already left polaris (nothing on dotlan to confirm this) so some system somewhere will have CCPeons hibernating.

I would say they are in a WH right now and will probably attack at 1700 tomorrow

With all the alleged spies in CCP you would think the news would be leaked

Sure because we know exactly the names of the toons the devs will be using =)

I mean.. really.. they wouldn't be so stupid as to use their "mains"...

Would they!?

One would hope not - Soundwave is far to well known and liked/hated (insert as required) by the community to not be called primary Lol

The way I see it, it's not meant as a formal live event, and they could just want it to accurately simulate real PVP; ganking, blobbing, hotdropping and all that.

Of course, as soon as someone does run into a CCP squad, it's going to be all over the forums, and everyone will go there anyway. Be patient. Pirate

Once upon a time many moons ago, CCP decided to run an event involving a Jovian Ambassador. Now they never meant to actually show the Ambassador, it was merely a news item laying the back ground for a an event where people were supposed to collect some items for the Jovians.

What they did do however was include the time and location of where the Ambassador was going to be in the news article. Half of TQ promptly turned up in 1 system at one time, hoping to see the Ambassador... and guess what.... you got it, TQ had a heart attack (I was there, it was rough).

Since then they have never pre announced a time and location for any event outside of the alliance tournaments.

And here's a link to the event in question http://www.eveonline.com/news/newsFromEve.asp?newsID=374

And here's a link to CCP apologising for the mess. http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=154#comments

Bit of a planning fail on CCP's part I'm afraid.

On news of them "leaving" and it being announced on the login screen, forums and twitter, several fleets were made up over the course of the night, only for them to all end up dissolving an hour or two after they were started - as no news was received and people went back to doing other things rather than trying to form up and coordinate.

An approximate time and a region of space they'd be travelling through would have made a significant difference. Even if it just meant 100+ highsecians got murdered trying to find their way through nullsec to get there.
