Outlaw's Den Is...

An Open-World PvP Zone
A place with no rules
A place to kill other players, including your own faction
A place to farm some of the best gatherable materials for crafting
A place to earn Mercenary Commendations
A place to buy rare mounts
A place to stealth and kill as many players as you can before getting caught
A place to hang out with your Guild, trade, auction items (GTN)
A place to duel your friends (and enemies)
A place to PvP, at any time

Outlaw's Den Is Not...

A place to progress in PvP Rank
A place for carebears
An instanced PvP zone
A WarZone. You do not queue up for Outlaw's Den
A Republic versus Empire specific fight
A zone that you can "capture" by use of objectives.

Facts:

Guilds vs Guilds, Parties vs Parties, it’s an open world arena that’s much, much larger. I’d say it’s about the size of a medium town in WoW.
It has special, rare spawning vendors, chests and crafting resources.
This area is not for NPCs, stories, or anything driven or organized by BioWare’s hand. It’s player-driven, community-focused, conquerable.
Possibility of a leaderboard implemented in the near future after launch; meaning you’ll be able to look at a billboard and see the most dominant guilds of the area or something along those lines.
For those of you worrying about accidentally wandering into this area, there is a warning upon entering that you’re going into a “lawless” zone, along with signs saying so all through the path in.
The area has a bank, an auction house (Global Trade Network or “GTN”), and all of your essential needs so camping out there as a guild won’t be quite as boring when there isn’t any action. There’s also a small arena area for localized fights.
Some of the rarespawn vendors can be killed by a secret method (we were shown by Gabe clicking on a bottle inside one of their tents, and the vendor proceeded to torch Gabe). There’s talk of the vendor possibly dropping some of his for-sale loot, but this isn’t final nor for sure.
Most of the things the rare vendors sell are cosmetic, such as mounts, but it’s all completely unique to that vendor and can’t be purchased anywhere else.

I did raise a question about griefing and Guilds who would actually participate in coordinated events in Outlaw's Den. Essentially, I was not assured that Guild's would be "protected" if they decided to do a Guild vs. Guild event. What's to stop another group from coming in to ruin the fun? Gabe explained to me that, essentially, that is the point of Outlaw's Den. There is nothing to stop another group from raining on your parade should you decide to coordinate something. Remember, there are no rules in Outlaw's Den. Part of the appeal and enjoyment that the developers are expecting to come from the zone stem from it's inherently chaotic approach to PvP.

In the future you learn quickly that kilts and skirts while good on paper do not meet the needs of future adventurers. You need support, and something to prevent "space chaffing". That or the artists were lazy and didnt want to make a ton of pants rather reskin the same thing.

I like this.

Usually games set aside entire servers for this and you can't go back and forth. It's nice that you can play an MMO traditionally and then enter a lawless territory when you're good and ready.

Now what other game has done that?

But if the tights bother you, then play a bounty hunter or trooper, they get actual armor early on.

Third attempt to post something in this buggy forum.

Claiming that a PVP system is awesome because (insert wow comparison here) is like praising the food at a restaurant because it tastes better than dog ****.

Relevant facts about PVP in SWTOR according to the op:
- It's an arena, plain and simple.
- It's optional. You don't have to go there.
- No consequences
- No risk

Boring.
