True Rogue Drones

Hi.
We've all seen abandoned drones at gates, in belts, and in huge swathes across space when big fleet battles have taken place.
What I'd love to see would be for abandoned drones (of all types) go rogue after a specific time (maybe an hour, or a couple of hours) and then pursue their own agenda (killing capsuleers)

This could make clean ups after big fleet fights a bit more interesting, afkers in hi sec might have something else to worry about, and abandoned drones at gates put there to de-cloak ships would eventually turn on their neglectful owners

What do you think? Moar content, or Moar opportunities for abuse?

I think this might be a good idea and make things interesting. Im sure that there will be those out ther just abandoning drones for the sake of having them pester other players but I think it would be fun to see abandoned drones take off and start shooting people they come across.

+1 for this idea.

Balance. Make it so that if their original owner is still in system, they are primaried for being mean and abandoning drones

An interesting idea, and a non game-breaking one at that- I'd love to see this somehow.

so once they go rogue they sit on the same grid and attack anything that comes along? except, if no one come back to that grid, they sit there consuming even more of the servers load now that they have AI and the grid has to be kept open.

counter proposal. delete them even sooner and assume rogue drones have come along, scooped them up and taken them to rogue drone sites and reprogrammed them. and thats why u fight them in missions and combat sites.

simple, after the time limit they can be in space they become rogue drones and attack anything in sight, BUT, they wont give bounty (so people doest exploit them buying cheap drones and leaving them fielded in space waiting to grind free rats)

the type of rogue drone depends on the type of drone:

-light scout == frigate

-medium == cruiser

-heavy == battleship

-sentry == sentry drone (?)

aditional to this, we could add more flavor to rogue drone mechanics, allowing them to work like this:

-they invade a system and start to build hives

-hives appear as cosmic signatures that have to be scanned down

-depending on the advancement of the rogue drone infection of the system they will start to replace normal rats in belts and gates

-at higher levels rogue drones start to appear in larger groups and with larger enemies

-chances of elite drones at higher lvls of infection

-the infection cannot be stopped unless all the hives have been destroyed along with the queens......

think of it like drones doing FW, mixed with incursions.......they will invade, will settle and start to take out human pressence, be it from the empires or criminals, no one gets spared. only capsuleers will be able to eliminate the infection.

infections will happen in any type of space, including WHs, in which case there will be Sleeper drones.....

lol drone anoms already exist. just pretend they appear because ppl abandon their drones.

things u may not have thought about:

1) if the drones make efforts to attack the system, carebears will cry like newborns when their system is under attack but they dnt even get rewards for the work required to remove them. or if they get paid, they will exploit the hell out of it and spawn and farm them like incursions.

2) waves and waves of griefers will abandon thousands of drones to ruin ur system.

3) if the drones sit in an anom and wait for players to come to them, ppl will do absolutely nothing. if the rogues dont attack ppl and have no reward, why should players even scan them down and destroy them? why not let them grow and grow. they seem to do F* all other than take up server load anyways.

still think my solution is the best.

How about, abandoning drones in space adds to a counter, which would, in the end, cause an incursion-like event to occur, system-wide.
Unlike incursions tho, these events would not be a huge ISK making opportunity, but a huge nuisance, where tons of rouge drones rapidly spawn on anyone who tries to perform any activity in the system (not the ones with a decent bounty, but the crappy ones, that die in one shot, but can swarm you and break your tank before you know what happens).

I wouldn't like to see them go rogue on their own, I'm pretty sure they would hard wire such prohibitions.

However, rogue drones who are going around stealing player drones to "liberate" them would be interesting.

imagine burn jita being made legal - goons dropping thousands of drones in safe spots - jita overrun with drones, servers crashing, and when jita is abandoned to the wastes of space - it's your home system next

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.
