Highsec is not for new players. The starter systems are for new players. They come with specific rules which are used to protect new players. Once they venture out of the starter systems, it's fair game.

As CCP has said, ganking is at an all time low.

It's part of EVE. Protect yourself and prosper. If you can't, EVE is not the game for you.

How are you still missing the point?

You are playing with a "gank me" sign taped to your back.

Perhaps you might want to consider:

1. Learning how to fit.
2. Staying away from the one area in metropolis you will most likely get ganked

or

3. Biomass, spend whatever billions you would have put into some inconceivable poor fitting on a new character, and try a fresh start, with a new perspective.

and yes i do gank, but i'm not just a ganker. i fly expensively packed freighters and incursion ships on other accounts and have lost billions to ganks, its part of doing business.

that being said, no you can not always cost effectively protect yourself from a gank, and i don't think that is a problem.

Every game has item destruction.

Most MMOs do it by obsolescence. You get an awesome level 507 sword, then the next patch comes out, you get an even better level 520 sword and destroy your old one.

EVE has a much more creative way of destroying things. that results in many great laughs.
