Cargo scanner for exploration

Hi.

I try to figure out, why cargo scanner is so much needed for exploration fits. If I finally manage to warp to some data site it does not matter for me, what is in cans - I take as much flying boxes as I can from every single one of them. Does cargo scanner help me to determine what is in flying boxes? I am afraid I will lose more time scanning, then gathering. Now I can catch up to 6 boxes from can. If scanning flying away boxes will take so much time, that I will catch only two of them, will it still worth it? Do you scan all fleeing boxes and chery picking just one or two of them?

You scan the whole container before hacking.
When you see the results you know which small container types you should catch.

This man is correct, but I'll expand a little on the why he is correct. It's a combination of two things. First, the contents of the hackable containers are determined before you even start to hack. Second, certain type of loot items only appear in certain type of spew/mini containers. What the cargo scanner allows you to do is to know exactly what the loot drop is and therefore which spew/mini container types to go after first and when you've got all you can from those containers. There is enough variation in the loot distribution and enough rare high value items, that knowing the exact loot will both increase the value of the loot you gain and reduce the time you waste chasing and hacking worthless containers.

Basically

Data cans = blueprints and skillbooks
Part cans = decryptors, datacores and t1 salvage
Material cans = t2 salvage

Everything else is pointless. If for example you scan a container and it shows a nice blueprint you will want to focus on data cans first, and so on.

If the cargo scanner shows empty/nothing -- then just move on to the next one, or is there still a chance there is something worthwhile?

When I see fleeing boxes they all looks the same for me. How I can detect which box is which?

You should see the type when you mouse over one.
Ideally you want to use the time pulling one box in to find the next box of your preferred type.

Ah! Thanks. I tend to spam mouse button on boxes so hard , that I never noticed the tooltip.

Just as a follow up, the reason you use the cargo scanner is to prepare so you know which cans to click.. for example, if you scan the can and don't see any blueprints, clicking the data cans will be worthless (you'll only get data sheets).. likewise the scrap cans are almost always worthless even if you don't cargo scan.
