Contrary to my original assumption, dying in an alpha clone doesn't set you back to 900k sp.
I wish it did though. Sad

This. Dying without an upgraded clone is a relatively small setback. It would take ages to drop back to noobie sp levels.

Wouldn't like Eve to have a hardcore mode. I would, however, love an MMO that is much like Eve and has this hardcore setting. Separate games. It would most likely change the way people behave, the way war works etc.

How about a Hardcore mode whereby if you die your character gets wiped and you start again from 900k sp or w/e it is you start at.

I think you asking a question like this is pure nonsense in every way possible. It's just absolutely unavoidable to even think of an idea which as I can tell is not worth even posting. Eve is cruel and dark, you should know. You DON"T need a "hard mode" at all in this game. It's hard enough to do even simple things like undocking without getting blapped like I did last night in a rookie ship for laughs.

Your conception of what constitutes a "hard mode" version is beyond hope.

Hardcore mode already exists.

Hardcore server is probably something we can rule out.

How about having a character slot for hardcore mode? What incentive would you get for using it?

Fabulous idea. Also, the mission should warp to the players instead of the players warping to the mission. This courtesy would be greatly appreciated by those that spend a significant amount of time in space. Two missions for the price of one!

Hardcore mode does not exist currently.

Not saying it should or should not, but it reminds me of the softcore (scrubcore) players of ARPG's like D2/D3/PoE....

They would argue that there should not be a "hardcore" mode so that everybody can play scrubcore instead and just delete their characters voluntarily if they die.

Obviously, it's not the same thing. Which is why the ARPG genre has been moving towards the hardcore (permadeath) community more and more.

If you're rewarded for playing on "hardcore" it kind of defeats the purpose of the mode, since it's not very hardcore if you're given bonuses. The mechanics should be: one clone, one ship, limited item hangar space, cannot stay docked for more than 15 minutes while signed in, suspect/criminal flags take 24 hours of being in space to disappear, cannot gain faction standing and cannot rejoin an NPC corp after leaving the first one(which should have a 2 week limit, after which you'll be placed into a one-man corp). As for incentives, this is hardcore mode, incentives are for pansymode.

EVE is build as a sandbox I'm told. Part of that means creating your own content.

For your own character there is a harcore-mode. If you find yourself podded and in station; go to loginscreen and biomass.

Point is ofcourse that others are not doing hardcore-mode. So killing their pod is less cool. You'll be at a disadvantage often. If you get podded when you finally reached BS 5 without dying earlier...

I'm not a fan of hardcore-mode. But I agree that its not really there right now.

Since you dont respawn with your shiny faction PVP ship with the purple hardener set; I'm happy the way it is.

It's the honor system. If you are pod killed, you must biomass your char.

I'm not suggesting the real life equivalent, because that would be really hard core.

I always liked the idea of a "live fast die young" mode.

Imagine this: you can choose the SP learning rate of a char but with acceleration options whereby you can go with learning SP faster, but these "hyper accelerated super brains" cannot be cloned. You pop, that's it.

On further thought however, there would have to be SP caps lest everybody have a 100M SP indie alt in a year.

Were it "up to me" I would:

Accelerated Brain level: Acceleration rate: Cap:
1 20% 70M SP
2 40% 50M SP
3 50% 40M SP
4 60% 30M SP
5 70% 20M SP

And of course it would be best (as much as I hate KBs) to make it known on a killmail that you popped a "Level 5 superbrain".

But overall I think that such a feature would allow new players and vets alike to make a decision ahead of time. "You want to run with the big dogs NAOW and not put in the time? Fine - here are options but you die you're done!".

(There will still be tears though)

Edit: if we really want to laugh, make it so characters created with this option have huge bulbous heads and hence making them huge gank magnets. I can see it: "Hey we got a fathead in local".

This is an absolutely horrible idea. There's numerous ways you can abuse this to gain advantages on characters that would never get podded.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)
