2 to 3 man jumps

I've been going out looking for some PVP action every night and i've been running into 2 to 3 man jumps, where I'm being pointed by one and the others unload on my ship. The best i can do in that situation is try to take one of them down along with me.

I was wondering what do some of you more experience pvp'ers do in these situation.

I have to say, i'm loving the experience that i've been getting from the fights. Now when i'm jumped i'm more calm in making my moves and trying to think what is the best way to handle the situation even though i have 3 guys ontop of me. Last night i was jumped again and if it was a 1 v1 the other guy would have been done. 8 times this month i've been out number out of 11 fight so far in my short career.

I actually like the brawling. I dont give a rats ass who im fighting. I want to have as many fight a night as possible if i could. I know the experience will serve me well.

You've got two viable options in a world of non honoure brawling

1) do overwhelming DPS to kill your targets before they can all be doing damage to you (ie kill the first tackle before the backup finishes landing). This is hard to do as people tend to be able to judge your likely damage output and plan accordingly.

2) fly nano ships and dictate range, be able to disengage at will.

watch some of the kil2 solo roams on youtube when his back is against the gate. Some awesome solo work that might aspire you

The problem i'm getting is being warped ontop of not getting the range. The other issue would be that i'm fighting one and then 2 more warp in and unload.

I'm trying to stay 150km away from belts or gates waiting for a fight so i don't get warpped on top of. Still learning.

For solo pvp you generally want to have a ship that has the ability to disengage.

There are multiple ways to disengage.

General Purpose:

-Neuts.
-ECM drones.
-Being in a sufficiently speedy kiting ship.

Niche disengage options:

-Webs. E.g. 2 frigates are brawling, both are scram fit with equal prop mods (either mwd or AB). One of them has more/stronger/longer webs than the other. That ship has the option to disengage.
-MJD. Only works on BS ships. Can microjump while pointed or bubled, but not while scrammed. Carry a heavy neut or 2 to neut out scram ships.
-ECM proper. Useless on an unbonussed ships, and the dedicated ecm boats are terrible at soloing. Works great for alts though.
-Tank. If you have a sufficiently strong tank, you can use a gate or station to disengage. Turn off all your guns, pull your drones and wait 30 seconds to de-aggress. Then jump through to a presumably safer system (e.g. a lo-hi gate) or dock up. In general this method only works in lowsec or npc 0.0. However, if your opponents are ******** and all of them aggress on one side of a gate, and you manage to de-aggress this will even work in Sov. Just make sure to have a mobile depot+cloak in your inventory as you probly won't be able to dock in sov.

Try waiting in FW plexes. Each plex has a warp in point, if you burn away from this point and wait you can determine the range, or stay at this point if you want to brawl.

Bring DScan down to 150000000 km which is 1 AU, scan while fighting to see if other ships are coming into the plex and disengage if you can't take them.

If you want a kill, and you run into this arrangement as a habit, might I recommend that you fit a missile cruiser with stabs and a rack of rapid light missile launchers (caracel would be ideal). When you get tackled, nuke the tackler and then run off. Yeah it won't put hair on your chest but what the hey I bet you will be entertained. RLMLs were so effective they had to put in a 40 second reload time and running off on stabs will have them smacking at you to legendary levels trying to get you to come back and get killed for sheer honor.

The super pro solo PvP trifecta:


  • Use off-grid boosts so you can drastically improve the performance of your ship with very little risk, while still fighting "solo".
  • Follow yourself with a neutral logi ship in another client. These are disposable and low-skill req, thanks to the recent buffs. You're still "solo" since you're the only one who shows up on a killmail.
  • Follow yourself with a cloaked Falcon in another client. If you start losing a fight, decloak and jam everything, allowing you to effortlessly finish them off while also smacktalking in local and telling them to HTFU and fit ECCM. The downside is the Falcon will show up on the killmail.


... Or all of them at once! Before you know it, you'll be winning 9 out of 10 fights with no trouble, even if you're outnumbered.

Solo PvP is definitely alive and well.

One thing i have learned from these fights is staying calm and thinking clearly my next move. Its wasnt like that when i first had my pvp experience. When i had my first battles, I was all over the place...lol. Now its more control. Makes it easier to have my 1v1 pvp after battling 3 guys.

When I get dogpiled there are a couple of things that I try to do. First of all, stay calm. It's better to be one second late with the proper action, then doing the wrong one right away.

I first look at any active effects on me. Am I being pointed? An I being webbed? If so, either kill that ship by quickly brawling it down, or kite away from it. Pick a celestial to align to, and try to be aligned at the moment the enemy ship pops / you kite out of range. This way you create chances for yourself to get away.

Remember a scram will turn off your microwarpdrive. Avoid getting scrammed to keep dictating range. Kiting tactics make it easier to disengage, brawling will see you commit to fights instead. Sometimes you are met with overwhelming force, and an insurmountable amount of points. If that happens just kiss your ship goodbye and focus on getting your pod out.

You may be too new to realize that he was pointing out some of the most controversial tactics employed by "solo" pilots. While they do work, you will likely garner a reputation for said controversial tactics - no matter how fair in the grand scheme of things they are or are not. You will be known for using them, especially in your usual stomping grounds.

Just be aware that using these tactics will come with a price. Less people will engage you as they realize you use them, and you may earn less 'credit' for your activities should you decide down the road to leverage your experience towards some social goal.

Everything in EVE has consequences.

Okay, so I regularly run up against larger gangs. Depending on what your flying, you can usually take larger groups if you know how.

Here is an example. You jump through a gate and find there are 3 people on the other side. They are in cruisers and so are you. You have thirty seconds to look at the group and think whether you could take any of them. If you can you try and figure out how to isolate them from the group. A good way of doing this is to burn back to the gate you came from and jump through. If one of them doesn't get a shot off at you, then he has no aggression timer and can jump back through the gate to chase you. If two shoot at you and one does not those other two can not come back through the gate for 1 minute whilst their aggression timer goes down. This gives you 1 minute to kill the one who followed you through. They can no help him.

Alternatively, if your in a very fast ship and one of the three is 70kms from the rest of the ship (and you know you can outpace the other two substantially) then you can burn for him. If he warps off before you get there you can move around at range hoping to draw one of them away from the rest, far enough that you will have the time to kill them whilst the others are burning to you. Just because someone is on grid with you doesn't mean they can actually "fight" you. Controlling range is really important in this sense.

Now this does require some fairly in depth knowledge of the ships in Eve and what they are capable of. For the kiting scenario you definitely need to know rough speeds of the ships that will be chasing you. And for both you need to have an estimate of their tank so that you can judge whether their friends can get to you before they die. The largest odds I have fought and won against has been 1 vs 7 (I killed 5, the others escaped). The 7 seemed very inexperienced, but being able to judge your enemies ability is also an important part of your assessing your enemy.

Find yourself a PvP mentor you can trust, someone with a really great killboard with lots of fights against larger numbers. Finding someone to help might be a pain, but once you find someone to learn from it will all be up hill from there. In Eve, keeping calm, and having an in depth knowledge of the situation is incredibly important. Make sure to download EFT and have a play with PvP fits so you have an idea of what your enemies are likely to be flying and the damage they are likely to have, the range they have, the tank they have, the speed they move etc. Whenever someone links me a PvP fit I ask them those questions incase I come up against someone flying something similar.
