Why does a PLEX cost more than one month of subscription?

For some reason I'm reminded of the First CityWide Change Bank (Part I, Part II).

A lot of people don't realize that change is a two-way street. You can come in with sixteen quarters, eight dimes, and four nickels - we can give you a five-dollar bill. Or we can give you five singles. Or two singles, eight quarters, and ten dimes. You'd be amazed at the variety of the options you have.
...
All the time, our customers ask us, "How do you make money doing this?" The answer is simple: Volume. That's what we do.

This to be honest. If people were not willing to pay extra for the services, then they would not be able to charge extra.

Surprised to see that the cost of a 60-Day GTC on Shattered Crystal is going for 33.24 USD which is approximately 11% more than the 29.90 USD I pay through my month to month subscription.

How long will they stay at 33.24 USD at SC? Who can say?

Granted, they are still going for 34.99 USD through Eve Online's PLEX Store. Which is 17% more.

plex can be used for several other things and can be sold for isk in the game's market. yo cant do that with the normal sub....

well if i would want PLEX, i would bought cheaper GTC, sell it on forum market and from isks i earn i buy PLEX on EVE market...

Still doesnt make a sense why is PLEX more expensive....

How much ISK do GTC sells for?

It converts to 2 PLEX, so 1.3b?

Nothing wrong rewarding the returning customer (subs). Very satisfied with my anual plan. I'd never buy PLEX with real money, but I'm happy for the option to invest ISK into game time.

A PLEX can be used to activate an account, something that normally costs $20.

I agree ... the discount for people subbing is unfair and should be stopped, everyone should pay the full PLEX price.

BAN discounted Subs NOW !!!

We demand everyone pay the same proper fair price for PLEX.

Confirming this.

When you activate a new account, it costs $20.
To stop people getting around it by buying PLEX, they knock up the price by $5.

A subscription is a one-off thing. You pay, you get your 30 days (or however many months you paid for), and you're done. With a P.L.E.X. you can use it for a 30-day extension, use it to change your character's appearance (you'd have to look that one up), sell it on the market, etc.

With my subscription ending January 2nd I plan to buy a 1 or 3-month subscription and 2 P.L.E.X. Need to sell one for the money and I'll decide what to do with the other one later Big smile

If I ever saw CCP Falcon's character in real life I think I'd politely ask him to kick my ass just so I could brag about it.

Use the other one to train one of the two free alts on your exising account and give him some PI and hauling kills.

You cannot "multibox" these free alts but if its a PI alt you do not need to, just log it in every few days and collect the goodies.

Yea, I learned that you can only 'multibox' (EVE terminology...Roll) if you have more than one account. Also, I can't use any starter packs or anything on an alternate character if I chose to make one. A Cerebral Accelerator would go a long way during those 30 days, but I don't have the cash to fund two characters right now (past buying a renewed subscription and these two P.L.E.X.). Personally, I'm a fan of having only one character, anyway. Granted, this is my first MMO and that probably goes against some unwritten law somewhere, but I plan to invest heavily in jump clones instead.

If I ever saw CCP Falcon's character in real life I think I'd politely ask him to kick my ass just so I could brag about it.

End result.

It's against EULA to trade RL money for "in game" items (unless you go through CCP).

Well played CCP...well played.

people don't want to pay for the game so they play for free by buying plex fro isk... I was part of a corp that would give you one free plex per month as long as you did the minimum required mining plexing, WH's
this was easy as had alts doing the work while we were fighting

Oh ho, touché. EVE is my first MMO so I'm not sure what slang originated from here versus previous games in the genre. Most of them are just odd, but to each their own. Thanks for the link, though Smile

Um, since 1 PLEX will get you one month of game time, it is always worth exactly one month of subscription.

I think the question is why did you pay more than $20 for 618M isk?

Who are you even talking to?

I said that I pay 14.95 USD month to month...

Among other considerations, CCP's costs for handling PLEX are higher compared to the costs associated with subscription payments.
For the latter, more or less the only costs involved are for transferring the money from your bank account to theirs.
With PLEX, unless you buy them directly from CCP, there is the added cost of the resellers commission involved.
