EVE Ganking Career

I am looking to get into the ganking business. I have a couple of questions first. Currently, I have 2 catalyst alts that can do ~525 DPS each (so about ~1,200 DPS together after overheating). I also have a new alt that can scout, loot and salvage the wrecks. I plan on luring concord away before each gank so I have as much time as possible. Is that enough firepower to kill a Hulk or Mackinaw? I know that they will probably drop very little loot but what can I expect from salvaging the wrecks? They are T2 ships so can expect an average loot of 1m, 10m, 50m or 100m per ship? Will one catalyst be enough to kill the ship before concord arrives or should I use the two?

Also, I tried ganking a transport ship with a 375 DPS catalyst a while ago but the gate sentry guns killed me right before I finished his shield. Would using 2 catalyst be enough to gank a Tayra or a Badger? My catalyst's only have ~3k EHP so the sentries would kill them before concord arrives. Or maybe I should join FW and gank people coming to cash in their LP? Any idea's?

You could probably kill a hulk with 2x catalysts. Macks would depend on the mack's fit.

Ganking on gates requires alpha ships (thrashers, tornados) or a lot of people usually.

If you like ganking, look around for merc or wardec corps; they will often do suicide ganks on big enough targets. Or join up with brave newbies or someone related to the goons, they have suicide gank events.

You will get t2 salvage from t2 ships which should be your profit if your lucky. Also t2 strip miners are 3+m, so each one that drops basically replaces your catalyst. Any other mods or salvage/ore is a bonus.

Use T1 cats. They cost less, leaving you with a larger profit margin.

I was considering that but my DPS drops to ~400 per ship. Will that be enough?

Depends on the ship & what sort of tank it has, but with T1 fit cats you're spending 90% less per ship, so you can always bring a couple of friends & still profit.

In my experience 2 t1 cats in 0.5 sec will kill a macki and hulk, unless they are v good tanked. But if you lure concord away u have v good chances.

As advice, get ur third alt in a venture to get u warp ins, also fit the venture with passive targeter and ship scanner to determine if its tanked or not.

Anything else, its pretty easy imo.

Why go at it alone when you can make friends and have a wider target selection? Just join a corp that specializes in ganking and youll probably have more fun than with an army of alts Blink

It all depends on their fittings mate. But try not to agress on gates as the guns will most likely kill you. try get em in a belt and if possible, get a ship scan on them if they are afk so that you can work out roughly their EHP

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.   Proverbs 1:26-27

Also realise that T2 transports get some T2 resists so if it's a caldari or gallente transport it's gonna suck shooting it with blasters.

- edit - you said transport but meant a t1 hauler.

Best you can do is get EFT and get the specific target ships fitted in there, then see how much EHP they have to your ammo type. Then simply calculate how many seconds of applied dps you need to finish them off and then compare that to concord response times and/or sentry gun survival time.

I have been noticing people shooting mobile tractor units as well. Can scan down mission runners, shoot the mobile tractor unit, become a suspect. If the mission runner engages you, you engage them. If they don't engage you, kill the MTU, and scoop the loot. You'll make ISK either way. Of course, you'd need the appropriate ships to take out the mission runner.

if you want to gank, why would you waste time ganking miners? They don't have anything good.

Makes it real easy if they have their dronnes set to aggressive. Shoot the MTU, their drones will attack you, pop their 5 billion ISK mission faction fitted boat.

Tip: Don't lock your victim until they aggro you and they may not even notice that you are in their mission area until it's too late.

All you need now is a marketing alt to sell the loot, an "innocent bystander" alt to condemn your ganking alts for their misbehavior, and a mining or hauling alt to play the victim of the gank. Might I also suggest a "white knight" alt who tries to break up the gank or somehow intervenes. (It will add to the excitement.) And you may also want a care bearing mission alt to help your two ganking alts get their sec status back up when it gets too low.
