I'm having exactly the same issue on my Macbook Air Mid 2011
1.8Ghz Intel Core i7
Intel HD Graphics 300 38 4MB
4GB RAM
OS X 10.9

Today's patch for Mac has apparently fixed the "black bars when warping" issue; however, the game still causes the whole system to hang if you attempt to use anything other than "Low" setting for "Shader Quality"

Another patch to the Mac game client this morning, but still no fix for the Shader Quality hang after selecting the character to use on start.

Yet another patch today, November 25, 2013, and still no resolution of the complete system hang when Shader Quality is set to "Medium".

Huge thanks for fixing the ship icon issue in the last patch!

November 28, 2013 patch Rubicon 1.0.4 does not resolve EVE running with Shader Quality set to "Medium" causing the entire Mac GUI to hang.

The Rubicon 1.0.6 patch does not resolve the above mention Shader Quality issue.

The position of the mouse is not recognised by EVE. Clicking the mouse button can open things and high light buttons suggesting that it thinks the mouse is in a totally different position to where it is shown on screen.

As a result the game is unplayable.

I'm fully patched up and it the problem persists

Using Mac OS X 10.8.5 on a 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo iMac with 4GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB graphics.

I have got an answer from CCP concerning the Medium Shader quality and the answer is a very bad news:

Quote:
Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in responding to this ticket. Unfortunately it appears that you will have to continue to have the 'Shader Quality' setting to low. The problem is that your graphics adapter is the very minimum that is supported and as such some quality will have to be sacrificed in order to run the game.

At least the situation is clear now for Intel HD Graphics 3000.

Are you SERIOUS? This is an outrage! It's not like I can go and buy a new computer with each new UPDATE! I'm living off of Disability because I can't get and hold a job! I can understand upgrading the game a bit here and there, but to make it unplayable for those of us who can't afford to blow $100+ on a whim but still charges for the characters/accounts? That's CRAP! I'm quite pissed off! This is exactly why I stop playing Everquest and Star Wars Online. They kept upgrading the systems so that I could no longer have access. Now, this? I hate it when people do this crap! And now I have nothing I can do. I have spent nearly 10 hours a day playing Eve and you took this away from me. I hope you suffer greatly.
The least they coud do is have a program on their site to tell us when our computers are outdated and what could be updated to get this working again. This would stop just buying new parts hoping that it'll make it work again. Sheesh!

The video card I have is: Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB. Since I don't have the Intel HD Graphics 3000, does this mean what I'm griping about? Please tell me. I was able to play Eve until the patch from about a week ago was downloaded and installed. Now I can't get past my Launcher. I'm going nuts here. A week with nothing to do is mean. Any longer and it's cruel beyond reason. Please fix this!

I get this behavior when I have command-tabbed over to a different application and then click back into the EVE window. I try to click in space first and then click on EVE buttons. On further thought, this also might be occurring to me when I click into a non-EVE window, and then the EVE client remembers what point the mouse left its window. And then if you command tab back in, if you try clicking on a button and not space first, it happens where the mouse left the window, which for me is somewhere odd on the Neocom.

Update:
Ok. I was finally able to log in again but at a very high price. I had to set my Mac back to factory settings. However, the socket disconnect error is still occurring. I'm much more patient with it now that before. However, it's still very bothersome. I'm not exactly pleased that I had to go to such extremes in order to alleviate the problem with very irritating side effects. This problem still arising after a full system reset only means that the problem is not with my Mac, but with Eve itself.

After spending about 10 days unable to log in at all then another 3 days backing everything up and another day of factory resetting, I'm exhausted with all the anxiety this has caused. The problem being on their end means that we're not at fault nor should we have to do drastic measures in order to access services we are paying for.

With all that said, it feels good to be back online with Eve even with the socket disconnect problem. But I don't have to like it.

I got a freeze, so we still have the freeze bug. One client running, then ran PYFA. The freeze happened upon arrival at a stargate.

Yup. Freaking FREEZE.

Lost a Kronos with a few nicer mods on it and died, even with bastion mode turned on only fighting a couple BS and some BC. Opened up a support ticket in game and I hope they do right and replace it.

I have had about two or three ugly crashes and one naggy video issue.
I'm getting crash dumps for the crashes and opening a supprt case but I thought I'd share the video thing in case anyone had some input...

27" iMac OSX 10.9.1
Intel i7 3.5GHz Quad, 16GB ram
Card is nVidia 780M GTX with 4GB of ram.

I have an attached 27" Display that I would love to stretch the game onto but cant - no setting for that resolution (5300x1440 fullscreen), no ability to resize from window mode like some Windoze guys do. I can do things like use the native OS zoom but since that just 'stretches' things in all directions its no longer hidef.

I'm pretty sure the card will support it no prob - I've had nasty opengl benches running on both monitors simultaneous with nary a pucker, nay, *glorious* was the thought most of the time - which the game does look with the hardware sliders cranked on one 27" IPS display - just would love it even more on two...

I am running both Snow Leopard and Maverick. Maverick was clean installed on new drive 2014-02-02 and
Downloaded Eve Online for a Clean installation: eve-premium_008261_710875-mac.dmg.
http://community.eveonline.com/support/download/

Mavericks Installation: created new issues and kept the older issues based on the Logs. The Main New issues appear to be Created beginning Lion and affecting Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks.

Noticed: /Applications/EVE Online.app has an X
Right-Click and “Show Contents”, Can Browse.
Double-Click EVE Online.app, Message popup: “EVE Online.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

I found an EVE Sticky: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=316715&find=unread
Which blames APPLE’s Gatekeeper: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5290

It appears that CCP needs to acquire a “Developer ID” for Eve Online from APPLE. According to APPLE’s Support I should be able to Open an App from an unidentified developer by pressing “Control’ > “Open”, This did not work. So I tried to run command line from Terminal according to APPLE’s “man spctl” command: spctl --add --label "EVE" /Applications/EVE\ Online.app
Typed in Password.
Still did not work.

Changing System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Allow apps downloaded From: “Mac App Store and Identified Developers” to: “Anywhere”, Works but defeats Protections for other circumstances. Changed Back to: “Mac App Store and Identified Developers” And it will Launch.

F-Keys, Alt-F-Keys, Ctrl-F-Keys do not work. Had to Open System Preferences > Keyboard and check box Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys. F-Keys, Alt-F-Keys now work in game except Ctrl-F-Keys. Guess all my passive modules go on the low while the rest can be on Mid and High racks.

    Hardware Overview:

  • Model Name: Mac Pro - MacPro3,1
  • Processor: 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
  • Memory: 10 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
  • Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB
  • DELL3007WFPHC: 2560 x 1600
  • DELL3007WFPHC: 2560 x 1600

  • Software: OS X 10.6.8 (10K549) SNOW LEOPARD
  • Software: OS X 10.9.1 (13B42) MAVERICKS

Off Topic but would be Nice:
I would Like to Upgrade my Video Card, But would need to figure out How to get the EFI Bios to recognize the Newer Video Cards. I tested a ATI 6870 just to see what would happen, without changing the Video Cards Bio. I lose all of the EFI Boot Options but it will still boot up. Apple does not ID the Video Card correctly. Tested a Windows Boot and it does recognize the Video Card and allows me to update Drivers. For the Apple OS X, I probably could import and compile a Linux version to BSD but this would not fix the EFI boot up issue, so I removed the Card till a time I was able to get extra good information on this solution. I am willing to test. (Contact me In Game for the off topic issue.)

Another Note About Apple GateKeeper:

  • “Mac App Store and Identified Developers”
  • "Anywhere"

  • You only need to set the:

System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Allow apps downloaded From: “Mac App Store and Identified Developers” to: “Anywhere”

for the first run. Once you have successfully launched Launcher you can change it back to “Mac App Store and Identified Developers”. all other runs should work without the Message popup: “EVE Online.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

Another Note about Maverick... the Control button does not work in game. I can no longer Control + anything like repeat my chat history or use low Modules, etc...

As a side note, you forgot one freeze type:

Freeze of Doom: The client/graphics ingame freeze your entire computer, no mouse response, neither keyboard or anything else, the mac starts using more and more memory on both cpu and gpu, heat goes up. force quit or anything else doesn't work. Force Reboot gets u out....

that seems to be a new result of the 4 Feb patch. At least for me. Everything worked great yesterday, new patch. Freeze of Doom now.

At a funny side note, one of my accounts has no issues, with my second one I cant even bypass the char selection screen. But what I heard from a few guys with using Mac Client, they all had suddenly issues from yesterdays patch.

Finally, the finished the grave for the Mac Client,... I guess this will be it with EVE on Mac....

Update: I managed to fix my issue. I turned off "Load Station Environment" and set Texture Quality and Shader Quality to Low and was able to log in. The moment I turned Shader Quality back to Medium, my client immediately displayed a completely white screen and hard-locked again.

Try setting Shader Quality to Low and see if it fixes the problem for you!

How do you have acces to those settings if you get the black screen? I can't do anything after the launcher starts the game because of the black screen...

I can't even get to character selection screen... just goes to black screen/freeze of doom straight after the launcher and loading. Tried running without the launcher and same problem.

    Same.

I can log on and get a black screen instead of the character selection.

I thought I could start, using window mode but now, it's even worse I have to start the computer with a hard reboot.
